We’re staying a few nights in Tallinn Estonia as part of our US Thanksgiving trip. Here in Tallinn I chose to use some Marriott points and book the Telegraaf Hotel right in the center of Tallinn’s Old Town. The Hotel Telegraaf is under the Marriott Autograph Collection of hotels. These are independent hotels that operate under the Marriott brand.

The Hotel Telegraaf Tallinn was a great hotel for our trip. The location was perfect for walking old town or catching the bus/tram to get a little further out of town. The rooms were really large and the staff was extremely helpful. Being a full service hotel, there’s also little extras that put the Telegraff as one of the top hotels in Tallinn.

Bottom Line: I would gladly stay at the Telegraaf Hotel in Tallinn again. Great location and great hotel. It’s a little more formal and less trendy than I would normally choose, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Telegraaf Hotel Location

We’d never been to Estonia before so I didn’t know the neighborhoods very well. In those situations, I usually just try to stay as close to the city center as possible. That’s the Telegraaf in Tallinn. There are a ton of bars, restaurants, and shops within a few hundred meters. Raekoja Plats(town square) just just up the hill behind the hotel.

Getting here is pretty easy but if you’re riding public transit here in Tallinn(like us), you will need to walk a little bit through the old town. The busses and trams don’t run through the old town, but there’s very little car traffic either, mostly just people walking.

Telegraaf Hotel Lobby and Check-in

We arrived at the front desk and the agent was able to check us into our room, even though it was only 11 in the morning.

The rest of the lobby was gorgeous and a really pleasant place. There’s a bar in the back that is open in the evenings. We didn’t stop in for a drink though, there’s just too many other bars to check out in the area.

Looking back down the entry stairs there are a few private meeting rooms along with the bellhop stand.

Of course the Hotel Telegraaf has an elevator, but we usually just used the spiral staircase as we’re only on the 2nd floor.

Hotel Telegraaf King Bedroom Review

We walked into the King Bedroom at the Hotel Telegraaf and I can say it wasn’t what I was expecting. So far on this trip we have been staying in hotels with relatively modern style and furnishings. The Telegraaf had a very trendy lobby, but the rooms are old school. It’s not a bad thing at all, just not what I was expecting. In the front of the room the bathroom is on the left on the right is the closet.

Moving into the room, the king size bed was comfortable and clean. This bed was on the softer side so Val really enjoyed it. I prefer a firmer mattress, but it was still pleasant.

Both sides of the bed had end tables with lamps and power to charge devices. I’m a sucker for an alarm clock, not sure I’ve seen an old school analog alarm clock in a hotel room in years.

Past the bed and towards the window there was a sofa. The Hotel Telegraaf room is large, especially for a hotel right in the center of town.

Opposite from the sofa is a table and chair. The room really had a ton of space to relax and spread out.

Directly across from the bed there is a desk and TV.

For those who like it, there was a luggage rack for a suitcase. There is also a closet in the front entrance of the room.

Hotel Telegraaf Room Features

A very old school room feature at the Hotel Telegraaf is the service cabinet. This is a cabinet that you can place items into and the hotel staff will collect them for service. So if you want some laundry done or your shoes shined, you can put them into here, place the tag on the door and they will be done and returned. This cabinet locks from both sides so your stuff and room are safe.

The Telegraaf has coffee and tea facilities in the room.

The hotel has an interesting history. It was originally built as a bank with apartments on the upper floors. Then in the 1920s it was used as the primary post office and telegraph office for the city of Tallinn. If you want to read more, here’s a great article.

Telegraaf Hotel Mini Bar

Inside the desk below the TV, there is a mini bar with lots of options. This isn’t included in the price of the room.

The Hotel Telegraaf mini bar menu and prices.

Telegraaf Hotel Bathroom

I didn’t think the bathroom at the Hotel Telegraaf was anything special, but it was clean and well stocked.

I’m not a huge fan of tubs in hotel rooms, this one was a little more awkward as there’s not a full door or curtain.

Hotel Telegraaf Room View

Our room was on the back side of the hotel and had a great view of old town Tallinn. In the snow, this was a calming and relaxing place to stay in November.

Hotel Telegraaf Spa and Resteraunt

The Hotel Telegraaf is a full service hotel and has a full service restaurant that in the morning serves breakfast and in the evening dinner. We didn’t eat at the hotel, again, there’s just too much out there in Tallinn to explore.

This is one thing I wish I would have known ahead of time, the Hotel Telegraaf has a spa with pool and sauna. Sadly we didn’t have the appropriate attire to take part.

Hotel Telegraaf Final Thoughts

I absolutely loved Tallinn Estonia. Such a fun and interesting city that I cannot wait to return to. I liked the Hotel Telegraaf and it’s probably the best hotel for first time visitors to Tallinn. The location and staff cannot be beat, there’s nothing better than waking up right in the middle of town.

The Hotel Telegraaf is an old school full service affair with everything you’d expect and a little bit more. There’s a great staff, beautiful lobby, bar, restaurant, and even a spa. I loved the huge and comfy room, but the bathrooms are starting to show a little age.

I would gladly return and highly recommend the Hotel Telegraaf. With that said, now that we’ve been to Tallinn, I might see if there’s another hotel in a more trendy area too.
