Our final leg of the trip to Vienna is on Austrian Airlines A320 in Business Class. This is euro-business so the seats will be the exact same as economy, with a middle seat blocked, but the service provided will be better. I’ve never ridden with Austrian so I’m excited to try out a new airline. We arrived at Frankfurt on Lufthansa’s 747-8 in Business Class(Full Review Here). Austrian and Lufthansa are partners and have the same parent company so this whole trip was booked together as a single reservation.
Bottom Line: Austrian Airlines Business Class on their A320 is pretty great. The seats are the same as economy, but even in the 90 minute flight, we were served a hot meal. The service was fantastic and I really enjoyed the whole flight.
Austrian A320 Business Class Boarding

After spending just about an hour in the Lufthansa Panorama Lounge(Full Review Here), it was time for us to board our flight to Vienna. Austrian uses the same terminal here at FRA as Lufthansa so it’s just a walk down to the boarding gate. Our Austrian A320 was waiting at the gate.

Austrian boards by zones. Being in Business Class, our group is Zone 2. If there were any First Class passengers connecting to this flight they would have been zone 1.
Austrian A320 Business Class Cabin and Seats

Like most carriers in this part of the world, the Business Class seats are the exact same as Economy seats. They just don’t seat someone in the middle seat. So in the A320 that has 3-3 seating, there will only be 2 people in the 3 seat section on each side. Our seats are on the left side of the plane in the second row.

Leg room was adequate, but again, these are economy seats. Without the middle seat occupied, there’s enough space to spread out and get comfortable.

There was plenty of space in the overhead bin to stow our bags then put our backpacks under the seats in front of us.

There’s no in seat entertainment on the Austrian A320. Again, this is very common on intra-Europe flights.

There is USB power under the seat to charge your device though if needed.

The plane was boarded pretty quickly and the flight attendants and pilots each made their individual welcome announcements. The door was then shut right on time.
Austrian A320 Pushback and Takeoff

Just after closing the door the flight attendant came around and distributed hand wipes.

It’s raining here in Frankfurt as we pushed back from the gate. The flight attendants also did their safety briefing before taking their seats.

We soon tookoff and made our turn east towards Vienna. Outside the sun is setting, unfortunately we’re on the wrong side of the plane to get a good view. With no in seat entertainment on the Austrian A320 I put on a podcast and settled into the flight.
Austrian A320 Business Class Meal

About 15 minutes into the flight, the flight attendant came around and asked if I’d like dinner. I asked what the offering was and was told it’s pork in mushroom sauce.

The Austrian Business Class dinner was really good, I was a little surprised at how good it was for being a two hour flight between Frankfurt and Vienna.

Next I was offered a drink and I chose a Egger Marzen Beer. This is a Austrian Beer and was perfect alongside the pork.
The whole meal on the Austrian A320 was excellent, the pork was delicious, the mushroom sauce had potato and sour cream. For desert there was a pastry with chocolate and custard. I really liked the simplicity of the whole service. Just one main dish and desert. No options, just “would you like dinner?” I liked that, Austrian keeps it simple and makes it good.
Austrian A320 Approach and Landing
After the meal, the flight attendants came around and offered another drink. Both Val and I declined. We only have about 25 minutes left in the flight.

As I could see the amazing sunset out the other side of the plane, I slid across the aisle to grab a few pictures. The Business Class Cabin on the A320 is not very full tonight. They have 5 rows on this flight and they were less than half full.

The pilots told us about the weather in Vienna and that we’d be landing soon. The flight attendants passed out chocolates before taking their seats.

We’ll be landing about 20 minutes early into Vienna.

It’s a somewhat clear night here in Vienna as we approached the airport.

We landed in VIE after our quick flight. All in, very pleasant way to get between Frankfurt and Vienna.
Austrian A320 Business Class Final Thoughts
For such a short flight the Austrian A320 in Business Class is great. The total time in flight is less than 2 hours from FRA-VIE. In that time Austrian provides a full hot meal, drinks, and desert. And the best part is the meal was actually good, I was really impressed.
Sure, European Business class seats aren’t anything special, they are the same as economy with the middle seat blocked off, but that’s better than nothing. For these short trips it’s more than adequate. All in, I was very impressed with Austrian.
