Continuing out trip to Milan (After Arriving in Frankfurt on Delta’s A330 in Business Class, Full review here), we’re riding on Lufthansa’s A320 in economy. These’s are pretty boring flights. Lufthansa mostly uses the A320 on short haul flights around Europe like our flight from Frankfurt to Milan. I don’t much care for the Frankfurt airport or Lufthansa really, but it’s a means to an end. I just don’t really see the difference between a full service carrier like Lufthansa and a low cost carrier like Easyjet. You get the same service and pay more for it with Lufthansa.
Bottom Line: The Lufthansa A320 in economy is kinda meh, but this is a short flight. The seats are tight and there’s no in seat entertainment but the plane was clean and the boarding was efficient, even if it was via bus.
Lufthansa A320 Economy Boarding FRA

My departure from FRA we were at a bus gate. I don’t like that bus gates are usually a little slow and hectic. I do like that we’re boarding via stairs from the ground. I just love seeing the scale of aircraft.

Lufthansa uses both the front and rear stairs when boarding here at FRA. Makes the process go a lot faster.
Lufthansa A320 Economy Cabin

The Lufthansa A320 cabin is the standard 3-3 configuration in economy. The business class cabin is the same seating, just with the center seat blocked.

The seats on the LH A320 are a very slim seat in a pretty tight configuration. But the plane was very clean so points to Lufthansa for that.

We found our seats on the right hand side of the plane. Another thing to note is these seats do not recline and the arm rests are somewhat short.
Lufthansa A320 Economy Seat Comfort

Leg room on the LH A320 is fine, not amazing. (Welcome to my legs).

There’s no in seat entertainment or charging ports for devices.

The boarding process wasn’t super fast because of the busses, but nothing crazy long. I was glad there was plenty of space in the overhead bins for luggage.

I was glad that the A320 has good overhead vents. It’s kinda hot here in Frankfurt today and with no-jetbridge there’s plenty of summer heat wafting in.

About 15 minutes later, boarding was finished. Unfortunately this was a little delayed because someone didn’t show up for the flight and they had to find and pull the luggage.
Lufthansa A320 Departure and Takeoff

We headed towards the runway as the flight attendants gave the safety briefing in German and English.

We took off and made our turn South towards Milan. We were told this should be a 55 minute flight from takeoff to landing.

Was a nice smooth climb inside the cabin.
Lufthansa A320 Economy In Flight

Flying over the Alps is always amazing. While I’m in a middle seat, Val’s in the window enjoying the view.
Lufthansa A320 Drinks and Snacks

Lufthansa offers water for free on these short flights in economy, so I guess that’s a little better than a low cost carrier like easyJet.

Also included was a small chocolate, I do wish these were not milk chocolate.
Lufthansa A320 Arrival and Landing

After a short time in cruise, we had started our descent into Milan. The flight had been nice and smooth so that’s good.

The flight attendants had come through and collected the trash from the drink service and took their seats as we prepared to land.

Just a few seconds before landing into LIN.

And on the ground here in Milan surrounded by lots of ITA planes.
Lufthansa A320 Economy Final Thoughts
Lufthansa is billed as a full service airline. I’m really not sure how they are competitive with low cost carriers on short haul flights. I guess they just aren’t. There’s no low cost carriers that service Frankfurt to either Milan airport. Just Lufthansa and ITA. I guess between the two, Lufthansa is the lessor evil. (Full ITA A320 economy flight review here).
The Lufthansa A320 was clean and the crew were efficient, but the seats are somewhat uncomfortable and there’s no in seat entertainment or power provided. I wish easyJet would fly this route, then I could save some money for pretty much the same thing.
