We’re visiting Stockholm and because I screwed up the dates, we have to move down the street from the Nobis Hotel(Full Review Here) to the Downtown Camper for just one night before flying home. The Downtown Camper is a Scandic brand hotel. This is a small chain based here in Sweden with hotels around Scandinavia and other nearby countries. The Downtown Camper is a large trendy hotel just a few blocks from the Central Train Station. While the Downtown Camper is clearly not as upscale as the Nobis, I enjoyed our stay.
Bottom Line: I’d be glad to stay at the Downtown Camper again. It was a great hotel with comfortable rooms, a fun bar, and trendy lobby.
Downtown Camper Stockholm Location
The Downtown Camper is located just a few minutes walk from the Stockholm Central Station. It’s also just 3 blocks from the bridge to Gamla Stan and Riksdagshuset. This is also across the street from the At Six Hotel(Full Review Here) we stayed at 2 years ago.

The Downtown Camper front entrance is located on Brunkebergstorg, but there’s also a back entrance on the walking street of Drottninggatan, just behind the hotel. It’s a large hotel and takes up the full block between the two streets.

The rear entrance to the hotel on Drottninggatan also has the hotel’s cafe that’s open normal lunch hours.
Downtown Camper Stockholm Lobby and Check In

We arrived at the Downtown Camper from just a few blocks away. We had some activities planned for the day so just wanted to check in and drop off our bags. We stowed our luggage in the storage room and then went out for the day.
Downtown Camper Stockholm King Room

We got back from kayaking and picked up our room keys at the front desk and went up to our king room. First impression is very good, for a lower cost option, the Downtown Camper has great rooms.

Val loved the bed, I thought it could be a little more firm. It typical Scandinavian style, there are two comforters, one for each person. I’m a big fan of that. Each side of the bed of course had outlets to charge devices.

Near the window there was a sort of day-bed window seat. Kinda like a bay window but not quite. I thought it was a nice use of the space that I assume holds the HVAC equipment for the room.

Opposite of the bed there is a small desk, TV, and bench. I really liked the use of space in the room. While not huge, there’s more than enough space here for 2 people and their things.

Next to the desk there is a mini fridge in a cabinet. On top there is tea and coffee making facilities. I just want to note, that’s not my hat, I’m not one of those guys. It’s Val’s she bought at the Monza GP to keep the sun off after forgetting hers.
Downtown Camper Stockholm Bathroom

There’s no getting around the fact the bathroom here at the Downtown Camper is small. You’re unlikely to get two people in here when you’re getting ready. I will say the bathroom was very clean and loved the subway tile.

Small sink on the right hand side of the bathroom. Like I said, it’s small, but perfectly acceptable.
Downtown Camper Lobby Campfire Bar

The Downtown Camper has 2 bars one in the lobby and the other on the roof. After kayaking we wanted to get a casual drink so decided to stop into the lobby Campfire Bar. There is also a full restaurant here, but we didn’t partake.

I’m not usually a hotel bar type person, I prefer to just go out, but the bar looked like a nice place to kill an hour before going out to dinner.

What really drew us in was the fireplace and seating around it. It’s September so not cold out, but the evenings are cool and the warm fireplace was very cozy.
Downtown Campter Stockholm Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed our short stay here at the Downtown Camper. I felt like such an idiot for booking our flights on the wrong day, and had to pay a little bit for the last minute hotel reservation, but it all worked out. The Downtown Camper is certainly not a boutique hotel, it’s a very large property owned by a chain group, but I loved it anyway.
I really appreciated the Downtown Camper’s location and clean rooms. The fireplace in the lobby bar was a welcome surprise. Not every stay on vacation needs to be a high end property, regular hotels can be great too and that’s the Downtown Camper.
