Before heading out on our flight to TPE on EVA airlines, Val and I hung out in the Star Alliance Lounge here at LAX. As the EVA flight is one of the earlier international departures, the lounge was very quiet and we had plenty of space to choose from. The best feature of the Star Alliance Lounge here at LAX is the outdoor terrace. In the California sunshine, it’s the perfect place to relax before a long flight.
Bottom Line: Located in the Tom Bradly terminal at LAX, the Star Alliance Lounge is a great place to enjoy a little bit of calm before a long flight. If you have access, this is likely the best lounge for TBIT departures. I wouldn’t bother with the United Polaris Lounge or the Amex Centurion Lounge if you’re leaving from TBIT here at LAX.
LAX Star Alliance Lounge Location

The Star Alliance Lounge here at LAX is located in the Tom Bradly International Terminal. While you could technically get here from other terminals via the tunnels and bridges, this lounge is designed to serve the TBIT departures.

Located on the 6th floor of the TBIT right inside the main hall of the terminal. The best way to get here is via an elevator that’s well marked for accessing the Star Alliance Lounge. Star Alliance airline business class passengers have access to the lounge, that’s how we entered, with our EVA business class boarding passes. Star Alliance Gold members can also enter the lounge.
LAX Star Alliance Lounge Spaces

Walking into the lounge, the space is very large with tons of seating. This is the main corridor in the lounge that leads from the front desk, to the buffet, bar, and outdoor terrace.

On the left hand side there is plenty of seating. There’s also an “indoor terrace” that overlooks the rest of the terminal.

While the lounge is very large, it’s well broken up in to smaller spaces that feel much more private. There are casual type places.

And also places that would be good for catching up on a little bit of work. Like I said earlier, the lounge was nice and quiet when we visited so we had the ability to pick a seat wherever we wanted.

There’s a media room with a TV, didn’t seem to be a very popular place while we were here. Not really surprised, who wants to watch 24 hour news.

In the back of the lounge there are showers. We didn’t partake as we had just checkout of our hotel before our flight.
LAX Star Alliance Lounge Bars and Buffet

The main buffet in the LAX Star Alliance lounge is located on the left hand side of the lounge in the rear. This area has bistro tables along with “the wine wall.” The bathrooms are separated from this area with the wine wall. It was the morning when we visited so a breakfast spread was offered.

There’s a full service bar on the opposite side of the main corridor. As it was the morning, this wasn’t a very popular area.

A self service drinks area was also available. This seemed to be the most popular option for travelers. It was with us. We were able to get a few glasses of champagne this morning.
LAX Star Alliance Lounge Outdoor Terrace

In my opinion, the best part about the Star Alliance Lounge is the outdoor terrace. We’re in Southern California, I want to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. The weather was just perfect to relax outside.

The outdoor space is very large, much bigger than similar offerings by Delta in the Skyclubs with their outdoor skydecks.

The view was pretty good, but not amazing. You can only see back towards terminal 3 through a small area, the other side is blocked by the TBIT building.

We found some seats near the table top fire and got a few glasses of Champagne. Well, it was probably some sort of sparkling wine like Cava or Prosecco and not actually Champagne, but that’s ok.
LAX Star Alliance Lounge Final Thoughts
The Star Alliance Lounge here at LAX is a perfect place to relax before a flight. I wouldn’t say it’s an over the top experience, but it’s very solid. The lounge space is certainly it’s strongest feature. While the bar and buffet are good, they’re nothing remarkable. The self service bar is a nice touch.
I really love the outdoor terrace. More airports need outdoor spaces, getting into the fresh air before a flight is very calming to me.
