Charlotte is just outside of day trip range for me. I really don’t like driving for 90 minutes, working all day, then driving 90 minutes back home just to do it all again the next day. I’m not often working downtown, so I end up in kinda boring hotels in the suburbs. This isn’t even the first Hampton Inn in the Charlotte area that I’ve stayed at.

This was only a single night stay for me. I was in the area of the airport and the Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport seemed like a good enough choice. The area around the airport is a bit of a restaurant desert so don’t expect much in the area in terms of meal selection. There’s also a few other things about this hotel to know, but I’ll get into that later.

Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport Location

As with most major airports, there are several hotels in the area. I chose the Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport because of it’s easy access to I85 as that was the fastest way to get to my work site. It was also one of the cheaper hotels in the area and I was booking last minute.

Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport Public Areas

Hampton Inn and Suites Charlotte Airport Exterior

Pretty normal Hampton Inn exterior. This hotel does offer a shuttle to the airport, again, very common for airport hotels. I’ve used my share of those during delays and cancellations, though not at CLT.

Hampton Inn and Suites Charlotte Airport Lobby

I didn’t get a great shot of the lobby, but they did have a departures board for the airport in the lobby, no forgetting that this hotel is here to serve the airport.

This hotel only has 4 floors and I was on the 3rd so I just took the stairs.

I asked for a room far from the elevators, they obliged with the last room on the left.

Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport Room

Hampton Inn and Suites Charlotte Airport King Suite

I walked in and was pleasantly surprised. I’m currently Hilton Diamond and I think I might have been upgraded to the Suite in Hampton Inn and Suites. Really kinda shows how unglamorous having hotel status is. I don’t aim for any particular status, but I stay enough nights to be some level of status at all the major chains.

Hampton Inn and Suites Charlotte Airport King Bed Suite

This is a large room, looking to the right is the bed and bathroom. It’s separated from the living room area by the desk and TV. There’s also a luggage rack for a suitcase that contains some drawers for those people who put their cloths away. That practice is very strange to me.

Looking back to the sitting area from next to the bed. Two windows is nice and there is only one AC unit. The AC was far enough from the bed to not blow directly on me while sleeping, and was plenty large enough to keep the room comfortable. There was of course more hotel art. I’m still not sure why I find hotel art interesting.

The desk with TV stand also had an extra set of drawers. The TV to swivel to point at the bed or couch. I didn’t use the desk for any work on this trip. It was well setup though and would have been very serviceable.

The king sized bed at the Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport was very comfortable. There were several power options on both sides of the bed. I also enjoyed the circuit board headboard. More interesting hotel art.

Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport Kitchenette

I think I had been upgraded to a suite, because of that, my room had a small kitchenette. I would more describe it as a wetbar, but it was adequate to store some leftovers. I still really wish that hotels would start including some paper towels or napkins. Due to Covid, I’m still eating lots of meals in the rooms and sometimes delivery/takeout doesn’t include them.

Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport Bathroom

The bathroom was separated from the room with a sliding door. There is also another room for the shower and toilet separated from the bathroom with another door. This is a good compromise where you don’t have the sink in the bedroom.

The shower was an old style tub and shower with a shower curtain. I’d obviously prefer a stall shower with glass doors, but this is fine for my single night.

Opposite of the tub was the sink and closet. This room had been well updated and was very clean.

My room here had a lovely view, across the parking lot, of the Home 2 Suites and the Holiday Inn. There’s no shortage of mid market hotels here at the Charlotte Airport. But then again, it’s beautiful and sunny out, so no major delays at the airport, I’m sure that changes quickly in poor weather.

Ok, there are some great views out the window here at the Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport, but there are some issues. Planes are loud and CLT is a major airport so there are lots of arrivals and departures.

As you can see, watching some trash television and plane watching was a nice evening for me. I even just ordered a pizza and relaxed. The good news is that around 11pm it was quiet and I was able to get some good sleep. The bad news is that around 5am arrivals started again.

Final Thoughts

The Hampton Inn Charlotte Airport is a well maintained, clean, updated property. If I was in the area I’d stay here again. The noise from the planes overhead is a little noisy so something to keep in mind.

This was an older building that had been updated. That’s a good thing in my book. These slightly older hotels tend to be a little less loud when it comes to neighbor noise, however the plane noise cannot be understated. This hotel also lays almost perfectly under the 18L runway approach. It was in-use about every 4 minutes for 5 hours while I was in the room.
