We’re heading home from Cleveland and we were upgraded to Delta’s Domestic First Class on the A320 that’s taking us down to Atlanta. This is a route I’m very familiar with but it’s been several years since I’ve taken it. It’s also been quite a while since I’ve done a good old fashioned Kinda Boring Travel review on a Delta flight so this will be fun, kinda. There’s something familiar to me about riding with Delta, maybe they just make me comfortable.
I much prefer to ride on the A320 over the Boeing 737.
Bottom Line: Delta does some things really well, even on these short domestic flights. The interior’s on these nearly 30 year old planes are excellent and in seat entertainment is top notch. I’ll gladly take the upgrade to Delta’s first class on the A320.
In This Trip
Delta A320 First Class Boarding
Here at CLE Delta uses the B concourse. We spent a little less than an hour in the The Club CLE Lounge (Review) waiting for our flight to board.

Right on time, our flight’s boarding was called. Delta finally changed their idiotic boarding group names and now just boards by groups starting with 1 and then counting up. Being in first class, we boarded with Group 1.

We made our way into the Delta A320 First Class Cabin. Delta has 16 first class seats arranged in a 2-2 configuration. Pretty standard for the A320.

At first I thought these were our seats, but turns out someone was accidentally sitting in our seats on the left hand side of the plane. Once we got that mix up sorted, we settled into our seats. Sometimes people accidentally sit in the wrong seats, it’s not a big deal. Just act like adults and get it figured out.
Delta A320 First Class Seats

We stowed our bags overhead and our backpacks under the seats in front. In the first class cabin there’s a decent amount of leg room, but the placement of the seat supports makes it a little awkward to stretch out when you have a bag below the seats.

Overhead Delta has done a good job of modernizing their older A320s. You really wouldn’t know this plane is 30 years old.

In our seats there was a bottle of water provided. The flight attendant came around and offered a pre-departure drink, but we both declined, water is fine.

There’s power available in each seat. Down near my shins there is a 110v universal power port.
Delta A320 First Class In Seat Entertainment

Each seat on the Delta A320 has entertainment. These also include a USB port for charging devices. The selection provided is very solid, especially for the somewhat short flights that the A320 will fly.

Delta’s A320s have live TV, super nice to have when it’s the end of football season(not that a game between the Jets and Dolphins matters).
Delta A320 Push Back and Takeoff

The cabin door was shut and the safety video was shown. The flight attendants made their welcome announcements and told us it would be a 1:25 flight in the air.

We pushed back from the gate, it’s pretty cold here in Cleveland in January.

There was no wait as we taxied to the runway and tookoff away from the lake.
Delta A320 First Class Drinks and Snacks

Once in the air, the flight attendant came around and offered drinks and snacks. I had a Sweetwater IPA along with some pistachios and chocolate cookies. Those cookies are one of my favorite plane snacks.

The cabin was quiet and dark on this night time trip down to Atlanta.
Delta A320 First Class Lavatory

The forward lavatory on the Delta A320 is large enough but nothing spectacular. It was somewhat clean though the whole trip.

Not much to see outside tonight. At least it’s a clear smooth flight.
Delta A320 Landing and Arrival

With about 25 minutes left in the flight the seat belt sign was turned back on and the cabin was cleaned up for arrival.

About 15 minutes later we were all prepped for landing and the flight attendants had taken their seats. Another clear night, just the same as Cleveland.

A few minutes later we landing into a somewhat wet Atlanta. I was surprised as it has been clear skys the whole flight but clearly it had rained here in Georgia.
Delta A320 Final Thoughts
Delta has done a great job of making these 30 year old Airbus planes modern. The in seat entertainment is very good, the over head panels look up to date, and the first class seats are comfortable enough. Service on these short flights is nothing special, but I do like that Delta has decent beers on board. I always forget that some airlines just serve crappy beers and always welcome Delta’s better options.
I’ve ridden on and Reviewed Delta’s A320 in Economy before if you want to check out the differences.
While I wouldn’t pay extra money to ride in Delta’s First Class on the A320 for such a short flight, I am happy when I snag a free upgrade.
