Welcome to a kinda boring work trip. This week I’m in Lynchburg Virginia. I’ve been here for work before and usually stay somewhat outside of downtown, mostly to be closer to where I’ll be working. But this trip, due to the nature of the work planned, I decided to stay downtown at the Virginian. The Virginian is an old school, small southern town hotel. The Virginian Hotel dates back to the 1910s, but was closed in the 80s. In the late 2010s it was refurbished and re-opened as a Hilton Curio Collection hotel.
If you want to see some other hotels I’ve stayed at in Lynchburg, you can see my other reviews:
Homewood Suites Lynchburg Review
Hilton Garden Inn Lynchburg Review
Bottom Line: The Virginian hotel is a great hotel if you need to spend a few nights in Lynchburg. It’s right downtown and while Lynchburg isn’t exactly a metropolis, the rest of the area is generic strip malls so downtown is the place to be.
The Virginian Hotel Location
The Virginian Hotel is located downtown Lynchburg. Lynchburg is a very small town, but there are some bars and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

The hotel is located one block off Main St. If you’ve been to a couple small southern cities, you know they have some charm, but are not exactly bustling. Lynchburg is still on the improvement swing, but that’s not a bad thing.
The Virginian Hotel Lobby and Check-in

I used the valet for my car, I’m just here 2 nights so it’s easier than finding parking on the street or using a garage.

Once inside, I went to the front desk to get my room keys.
The Virginian Hotel King Bed Review

I found my way to the 3rd floor and my king bedroom. On first impression I was pleased with the the size of the room and the tall ceilings.

The king bed was comfortable and there was a sofa in the room as well. The furnishings are definitely old school, but that’s not a bad thing. This is an old, but renovated, hotel. Makes sense to decorate in this manor.

This is a work trip, so I like to have a desk. Unfortunately there isn’t a desk in the room, but there is a small table. Good enough in my book.

Having a sofa in a hotel room is nice so that you don’t need to just sit on the bed. I wasn’t here long so while I did use the sofa, I didn’t spend hours in the room.

Looking back into the king bed room at the Virginian Hotel.

On the opposite wall from the bed and sofa is the TV and dresser.

In room tea and coffee was provided by a Keurig. I didn’t use it, but I like there are real coffee cups and not just disposable.

The Virginian does have in room mini-fridges. You’re not going to be cooking here, but at least there’s a place to keep leftovers.
The Virginian Hotel Bathroom Review

I really liked the bathroom at the Virginian in Lynchburg. It’s all tile with a stand up shower. This bathroom is what I want to use as inspiration for remodeling our upstairs bathroom at home.

There’s a separate toilet room off the bathroom too. So if you’re staying here with someone else, you can “share” the bathroom without it being so intimate.

The bathroom was well stocked with plenty of towels and amenities.
The Virginian Hotel Rooftop Bar Skyline

The rooftop Skyline Bar and Restaurant is a great spot to unwind at the end of the day. Inside there’s a full restaurant.

Outside you can just sit outside next to a fire and have a drink. I’m not sure if they’ll serve the full menu outside, but the view of Downtown Lynchburg is nice.

I usually found myself at the bar getting a beer. They had several locals on draft and I always appreciate that.
The Virginian Hotel Final Thoughts
The Virginian Hotel is the best hotel in Lynchburg. It’s not really close either. The rooms are large, the location is great, and the rooftop bar is perfect for an end of day beverage.
I liked walking to dinner each night even if it was just to a local pizza shop. Downtown Lynchburg isn’t really a destination, you’re unlikely to be here for a vacation, but if you find a need for a hotel in Lynchburg, the Virginian is the best choice.
