We’re heading home from Detroit today on a Delta CRJ900 in Comfort Plus. I’ve ridden on the CRJ900 a lot(Delta First vs Comfort vs Economy Review here), and I usually enjoy it. The CRJ900 is a regional jet, but it’s pretty comfortable. I like that even in economy, there are no middle seats. It’s been a while since I’ve done a Delta CRJ900 Review, so I figured this was a good excuse.

Detroit had some really bad storms at the beginning of this trip, fortunately today everything appears to be on time for us. We cleared security, but took much longer that usual, even with Pre-Check. The Lions just played last night so the airport is busy with Honolulu Blue.

Bottom Line: Comfort Plus on the Delta CRJ900 is a great way to travel for less than a few hours. With zero middle seats, plenty of leg room, and free drinks I’ll never avoid the Delta CRJ900.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Boarding

Delta CRJ900 at the gate DTW

We arrived at our departure gate just about 10 minutes before boarding. Our flight is departing right on time. It’s cold today, but the snow stopped yesterday.

Delta CRJ900 Boarding

The McNamara terminal is really pleasant and a great place to fly from. Comfort Plus is the 4th boarding group, after Pre-boarding, First Class, and Diamond Medallion Members.

Delta CRJ900 Boarding

Nice view of the CRJ900 at the gate. The easiest way to differentiate between the CRJ900 and CRJ700 is the number of exits over the wing. The CRJ900 has 2 on each side where the CRJ700 has 1.

The Comfort Plus section on the Delta CRJ900 has 4-5 rows(depending on configuration) arranged into 2-2 seating arrangement.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Seats

We found our seats on the left hand side of the plane in row 8.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Seats

The Comfort Plus seats are the same as the regular economy seats, but with more leg room. I find them very comfortable, but I’m not tall.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Legroom

Even with my jacket stuffed under the seat, I have lots of leg room.

The windows on the CRJ900 are oddly spaced so not of the seats align well, but our row 8 isn’t terrible.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Seats

The Delta CRJ900 doesn’t have in seat entertainment. There is Wifi available but it’s not free.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Power

Below the seat infront, on the Delta CRJ900 there is a single power port to share between the two passengers. It has both USB and 110v universal power.

Delta CRJ900 Push Back and Takeoff

We pushed back about 2 minutes early and the flight attendants gave their safety briefing as we taxied to the runway.

Delta CRJ900 Take Off

We took off towards the south over snow covered Detroit. It was certainly a mess getting here, but the it’s pretty from the air.

Delta CRJ900 Take Off

The takeoff and climb was extra smooth, I don’t think I felt a single bump even as we passed through a few layers of clouds. It’s extremely cold out there through.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus In Flight

I signed into the wifi and the flight attendants made their welcome announcement. They told us about the drinks that would soon be passing through.

Delta CRJ900 Wifi

There’s no in seat entertainment on the Delta CRJ900, but the WiFi works just fine. Not super fast, but I had no issues streaming some music and browsing the web.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Drinks and Snacks

As the flight attendants came through with their drinks, the seatbelt sign was turned off. I went with a Coke and sun chips. Delta does off free beer, wine, and liquor here in Comfort Plus, even on the CRJ900. I didn’t bother on this short flight.

At this point in the flight it’s been very smooth, the seat belt sign was off but the pilot told us it would be short. This isn’t a long flight and there’s some bumps expected as we get closer to Greenville.

The flight between DTW and GSP is about 2 hours gate to gate. Today, in the air it’s scheduled to be less than 90 minutes. After our drinks and snacks, we only have about 25 minutes left in the flight. At this point we could tell we had descended a little bit.

Just a few minutes later the seatbelt sign was turned back on, the pilot told us we’d be on the ground soon and there’s a little weather ahead.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Landing

As we continued to descend, the flight attendant made an announcement and told us to stow our cups and trash in the seat pockets, they are expecting it to be a little rough and cannot come through and collect the garbage.

The Delta CRJ900 dropped below the clouds and we made our approach to GSP from the North East.

And just a few minutes later we were on the ground here in Greenville. This flight was very fast, we’re about 15 minutes early so that’s always welcome.

Delta CRJ900 Comfort Plus Final Thoughts

The CRJ900 is a regional jet and obviously not a big plane. Really, it’s a comfortable ride, especially for its size. The Delta Comfort Plus section gives more leg room over economy, but isn’t a wider seat like First Class. Comfort Plus also gives free drinks, but I only had a Coke so it didn’t really matter. The biggest benefit to the CRJ900 is that the seats are 2-2 arrangement, there are no middle seats.

Always glad to have a direct flight, that’s on time, and comfortable.
