Singapore Airlines has an amazing meal pre-order system for business class passengers. This isn’t the usual pre-order with 4-6 options that area all offered on board, Singapore has “Book the Cook.” The menu has more that 50 options, the vast majority of them won’t be a part of the onboard menu.
Bottom Line: I got to try out the Singapore Book the Cook a few weeks ago. I thought this was a great program, it allowed me to really enjoy my meal. I also made my selection quite far away from the flight, mostly so that I would be surprised by my selection. Having a terrible memory is sometimes fun.

Who Can use Singapore Airlines Book the Cook
Singapore Airlines offers the Book the Cook service to all passengers flying in Business, First, and Suites on flights longer than 90 minutes. It’s also offered in Premium Economy on longer flights too.
When Can you Book the Cook With Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines Book the Cook selection opens up weeks before departure. For most departures it closes 24 hours before departure, but a few routes close at 48 hours. I think booking around 10 days out is the sweet spot. Not that the menu will change, but it’s a fun pre-trip activity to help me get excited about a flight.
How to Book the Cook with Singapore Airlines

The Singapore Book the Cook meal order has the same mechanics of other airline pre-order systems. On the Singapore Airlines website, under your reservation there is an option to select your meal. Each person on the reservation has the opportunity to select their own meals. This is available to anyone flying in Business Class, First Class, or Suites. Some routes in Premium Economy also offer the Singapore Airlines book the cook option.

Depending on the length of flight, you’ll have the option to select up to 3 meals. You can chose whatever you like for whatever meal you want. If you want lobster thermidor for all of your meals, that’s not a problem.

Once you’ve made your choices you submit the selection. At any point, if you want to make a change, you’re able to, as long as you’re not too close to the flight.
Singapore Airlines Book the Cook Menu
If you want to see the current Book the Cook menu, the Singapore Airlines Website has the most up to date information here. The book the cook menu is different depending on the departure airport. The flights departing from Singapore have the largest selection.

The menu consists of a specials section, various regional cuisines, and finally options for those with dietary restrictions. I really don’t think you can make a bad selection here, but the Singaporean and Indian options are particularly good. The Lobster Thermidor has a bit of cult following, though I’ve not had it. While I’m sure Singapore does a great job with everything, on planes, I tend to pick options that lend themselves to being prepared on planes.
Singapore Airlines Book the Cook Final Thoughts
Singapore Airlines does everything right and the book the cook is no different. Being able to choose from 50+ menu options, depending on departure city, is amazing and absolutely head and shoulders above any other airline I’ve experienced. The selection process is easy and fast, you don’t need to wait for one particular email, just make the selection on the Singapore Airlines website. Just make sure you watch the deadline.
The meals on Singapore are also just fantastic. I still don’t think that meals on planes are as good as in a real restaurant on the ground, it’s just not possible, but Singapore does a great job. As I said before, I do pick meals that are easily prepared on planes. I enjoyed all of my book the cook meals while on board.
