Today we’re heading back home from Copenhagen. The first leg of our trip will be on Air France’s A220-300 in economy class down to Paris CDG. We rode here to Copenhagen on another Air France A220-300 in Business Class(Full Review Here) so it will be good to compare the Air France Economy Class vs Business class on the A220-300.

The Air France A220 is becoming their short haul work horse option. If you’re making a short hop flight from CDG there’s a decent chance you’ll also ride on the AF A220.

Bottom Line: I really like the A220, I’ve ridden on them a few times. In economy the A220 has 2-3 seating instead of the more common 3-3 seating you’d find on the 737 or A320. Air France does have a somewhat dense configuration for their A220s, but on the short haul European legs these planes take, it’s not a huge deal. Being a full service carrier, Air France includes a drink and snack service.

Date of Flight: November 2022

CPH Airport

CPH Airport Departures

We arrived at the CPH airport about 90 minutes before our Air France A220 Flight down to Paris. We checked into our flight at the counter and they pointed us towards the Aviator Lounge.

CPH Airport Departures

We headed towards Terminal 2 where Air France will depart from. The Copenhagen Airport is really pretty, all the airports this trip have been.

CPH Airport Departures Duty Free

As always, we exited through the gift shop then made our way to the lounge.

CPH Airport Terminal

After a half hour in the lounge we headed to the gate to board our Air France A220 Flight.

Air France A220-300 Boarding

Air France A220 Boarding

We arrived at the gate and our Air France A220 was waiting to take us to Paris. I really love the look of the A220, the sleek front windows are my favorite part.

Air France A220 Boarding

Air France boards by zone. We’re in zone 2 and we boarded via the automatic gates.

Air France A220 Boarding

The A220 cabin is very roomy and comfortable. In economy, the A220 has 2-3 seating. The pair of us are flying together so sitting on the left hand side is perfect for Val and I. I like how the mood lighting is the colors of the french flag. A great thing about the A220 is the overhead bins are large and there are a lot of them. Plenty of space for our carry on bags.

Air France A220 Economy Seat Review

Air France A220 Seating

We found our seats on the left hand side(right side while boarding). The Air France A220 seats are pretty slim, but not uncomfortable.

Air France A220 Seating

Opposite from us you can see the 3 seats on the right hand side of the aisle.

Air France A220 Seating Leg Room

The leg room on the A220 in economy isn’t amazing, but it’s adequate. It’s more than you’d find on some low cost carriers, but less than I was expecting from Air France.

Air France A220 Seating

A great thing about Air France on the A220 is the power in every seat. There’s both standard USB and then Type C USB. There’s no in seat entertainment on this flight, but there is Wifi.

Air France A220 Interior

The overhead panel on the Air France A220 is much of what you’d expect. I like the A220’s vents, much better than what you’d get on a Boeing 737 with the Sky Interior.

Air France A220 Safety Card

Boarding was soon completed and the Fight attendants gave their safety briefing. The pilots told us it would be just about 2 hours down to Pairs this morning.

Air France A220 Window View

We pushed back from the gate right on time. Outside was a Norwegian 737-800, not the one we rode on earlier in this trip though.

Air France A220 Window View for Takeoff

We headed to the runway here at CPH. It’s a little grey here in Copenhagen.

Air France A220 Window View

As we climbed out of CPH we got a nice view of the Danish coast.

Air France A220 Economy In Flight Review

Air France A220 View from the Window

Quickly we were above the clouds. The seat belt sign was also turned off and the flight attendants began their service.

Air France A220 Interior in Flight

Unlike our trip up to Copenhagen, the curtain between Business Class and Economy was pulled shut. I would not recommend sitting in the first row of economy, the curtain will end up in your lap.

There’s no in flight entertainment on the Air France A220, but there are tablet holders. I don’t travel with one, but Val watched some shows on her iPad.

Air France A220 Economy Snack Service

Air France A220 Snack Service

On short flights Air France offers a snack service in Economy. This is a morning flight so the options were just Coffee, Tea, and Water. I really liked the cookie, it was a caramel with cinnamon.

Air France A220 Snack Service

A nice feature of the Air France A220 is these little cup holders. You won’t need to fold out the whole tray table. This is especially nice if you want to get up while you still have trash.

Air France A220 Bathroom

Air France A220 Bathroom

A lot has been said about the bathrooms on the A220, some airlines have opted for a window in here. Air France is not one of those airlines. The bathroom was large and clean enough.

Air France A220 Cabin

I headed back to my seat, we have just under an hour remaining on the flight down to Paris.

Air France A220 Economy CDG Arrival

Air France A220 Window View

The flight attendants came around and collected the remnants of our snack and beverage service. The pilots informed us we’d be landing in less than 15 minutes. We slowly descended through the clouds, it’s been a nice and smooth flight so far.

Just a few minutes later we were in sight of the airport.

And on the ground here in Paris.

Air France A220 Economy Class Review Final Thoughts

I like to ride on the A220 and Air France is no exception. Economy isn’t anything special, but the service was good and our flight was right on time. I find the A220 more comfortable than the A320 or 737 series aircraft. 2-3 seating is just better than 3-3 in economy.

The Air France A220 economy seats have a little less space that I would expect, but nothing I would consider uncomfortable, just modern seating unfortunately. Overhead bin space is ample due to the seating arrangement, there’s just fewer people per row. Air France doesn’t have in seat entertainment, but there is power in every seat to charge devices.

The ride on the A220 is very good, this isn’t really a small jet, it’s very comfortable to ride on. Out flight was very smooth throughout. The flight attendants were friendly and the quick snack and beverage service was more than adequate for the short flight. I would gladly choose to ride on the Air France A220 again.
