I’m always excited to try and review new airlines and airplanes. Even if it’s just a kinda boring SAS A320Neo in economy on a short haul flight. Today we’re riding with SAS between Copenhagen and Oslo, this is a very popular route that is flown by a couple airlines. I chose SAS mostly because of the price and the timetable. The SAS flight worked the best with our schedule and with a seat assignment and carry on bag was still inexpensive.
SAS is currently in the process of replacing it’s older 737s with brand new A320Neos. These A320s will be mostly used for flying around Europe from their Scandinavian hubs. Today’s flight is a hub to hub flight as CPH and OSL are both hubs for SAS.
Bottom Line: I enjoyed this SAS flight to Oslo. It was perfectly pleasant for a low cost short haul European flight, not glamorous, but solid.

CPH Airport Review

We arrived at CPH airport about 75 minutes before our flight. The CPH airport is just beautiful, it’s really a top notch experience. It’s also very well connected to Copenhagen via the metro system. At CPH, SAS uses terminal 3, we followed the signs and headed that direction.

We already had our boarding passes so we quickly headed towards security. At CPH the security process is extremely organized. Before security there’s an area to organize your bags so that your liquids and electronics are easy to get to.

In the security line there’s an automated system to direct you to the correct scanner line. The whole system is pretty great, way better than the mess at some airports.

The CPH airport a great experience as a whole. It’s clean, comfortable, and easy to use. Our flight hasn’t posted a gate yet, but was scheduled to post within a minute or two. We stopped by a shop to grab a soda.

Our gate was then posted and we headed to the gate. Soon after we arrived I got a notification that our flight was delayed, nothing major, just 25 minutes.

With a few minutes to kill we just hung out at the gate.
SAS A320neo Boarding at CPH

Soon our SAS A320neo arrived and was quickly deplaned and we were ready to board.

SAS boards by zone and we’re in zone D as we booked an “SAS Go Smart” fare that includes a seat selection and carry on bag. A and B we’re the first to be called. Interestingly the automated gates rejected people when it wasn’t their time to board yet. We saw a few people get bounced out of line.

The called our zone and we boarded via the jet bridge. If you’re seated in the front of the plane you use the jet bridge, the rear uses stairs from the ground.

The cutoff was row 17. We’re in 15, I’m not sure what one is faster but I suspect it’s the rear.
SAS A320neo Economy Seat Review

The economy seats on the SAS A320neo are nothing amazing. They are a relatively thin cushion and the pitch is somewhat tight, but nothing uncomfortable. But then again, I’m not that tall and I fit in most airline seats.

We found our seats and settled in. There was space overhead for our carry on and stuck our backpacks under the seats in front of us.

I got out my headphones and got relaxed in my seat. The flight attendants gave their welcome and the pilots informed us that the flight would be just under one hour and we should make up the entirety of the delay.

The SAS 320neo doesn’t have any in flight entertainment. The good news is that there’s USB power in each seat. My phone is getting towards the end of it’s life and the battery just isn’t what it used to me, I really appreciated the opportunity to charge it.

The overhead panel was the standard Airbus narrow body panel. I liked the air vents, they actually worked.

It’s not a completely full flight up to Oslo, but it’s close. Unfortunately no empty seat in our row.
SAS A320neo Departure from CPH

We pushed back from the gate at Copenhagen. Our 2:45pm departure time somewhat close to sunset here in Scandinavia in late November.

The cabin lights were dimmed as we headed to the runway.

We took-off after a pretty quick taxi to the runway.

On takeoff we quickly passed through the clouds and unfortunately never got a view of the landscape, it’s pretty rainy here today.
SAS A320neo In Flight Review

Once airborne the in seat power was turned on. You’re not allowed to have anything plugged in during takeoff and landing. Seems to be a common requirement in Europe as Air France had the same on their A220(Full Review here if you’re interested).

The tray table is a good size on the SAS A320neo. There was an in-flight beverage service, coffee and tea were offered, but we both declined.

Outside the sun continued to set, it’s a nice smooth flight today.
SAS A320neo Arrival into Oslo

After just over 50 minutes we were descending into OSL. It’s dark and snowy here in Norway.

Even with the delayed departure we landed here in snowy Oslo right on time. I was surprised to see all the snow on the ground, I know it’s winter in Scandinavia and I should have expected it.

We parked at the gate here in OSL. The exterior of this airport reminds me a lot of HEL.
SAS A320neo Final Thoughts
I enjoyed our trip on the SAS A320neo. This is the first time I’ve ever been on an A320neo, I’ve have however been on the A321Neo a few times along side the A320Ceo a lot. SAS is following the low cost carrier model for these intra-Scandinavian flights. The basic fares included nothing, just a small under seat carry on bag. We chose a more expensive fare that included a seat selection and overhead bag. Even then, this flight was very inexpensive.
I liked that the SAS A320Neo had power in every seat to charge devices. I also thought there was more than enough leg room even though this is a pretty densely configured airplane. The over head vents were good and the free coffee, tea, and water service is nice on SAS.
The SAS flight between CPH and OSL was very pleasant. The flight was smooth and the crew was very pleasant. I wouldn’t hesitate to fly with SAS again.
