Today we’re flying on and I’ll be reviewing the Norwegian 737-800 in economy class between Oslo and Stockholm. It’s kinda fun to fly Norwegian from Norway, but at the end of the day, this is a low cost carrier on a relatively short intra-Scandinavia trip. Norwegian’s current fleet(Winter 2022) is exclusively Boeing 737s and the 737-800 is the most common type in the fleet.
These intra-Scandinavia are pretty cheap and there’s a lot of frequency between the capital cities. We chose to fly with Norwegian on this part of the trip mostly because of the timing. All of the airlines on this route were about the same price so really it just came down to schedule. We chose an early afternoon flight so that we could get to Stockholm and enjoy the day. Anyway, let’s get into this Norwegian 737 review.
Bottom Line: The Norwegian 737-800 is a perfectly pleasant ride. It’s pretty similar to any other low cost carrier within Europe. There aren’t any frills or extras included. With Norwegian we paid for a seat selection along with carry on bags. This also afforded us an early boarding zone, always welcome for getting overhead space for our bags.
Oslo Airport

We arrived at the beautiful OSL airport about 75 minutes before our Norwegian flight to Stockholm.

We had already checked-in using the Norwegian app so we didn’t need to stop at the counter. We headed right for the security line. Like the vast majority of Europe, there are automated gates.

Within a few minutes we had passed through security.

Our boarding gate had just been shown on the departures board so we walked right to our gate. The Oslo airport is really a nice space. This airport really puts other to shame when it comes to style.
Norwegian 737-800 Boarding

We arrived at our gate just when our Norwegian 737-800 arrived. Perfect timing. It’s a little cold and raining here in Oslo, but nothing too terrible.

Right on time we began the boarding our flight to Stockholm. Norwegian boards by boarding group, we were in Group B.

Like most carriers in Europe, with Norwegian, the front of the plane boards separately from the rear. We were in row 12 so we used the jet bridge, but a part of me wishes we were in the rear, I enjoy boarding via stairs from the rear of the plane.

I wanted to see who was on the tail of our plane. Norwegian does “Tail Fin Heroes” on their 737s but unfortunately ours was a plain white tail.
Norwegian 737-800 Seat Review

We made our way to our seats on the Norwegian 737-800. These are pretty standard economy seats, nothing amazing here.

We made our way to our seats. Note, this isn’t our row, it’s the seat in-front of ours. I forgot to take a picture before sitting down so snagged this on the way off the plane. There is a missing window in row 11 and I would avoid that.

I was in the middle seat and Val had the window. The leg room is adequate on the Norwegian 737, not what I would call spacious, especially with my back pack under the seat in-front of me.

Norwegian doesn’t have in flight entertainment on these 737-800s. Not really a surprise for a low cost airline.

The overhead panels are like every other 737 with the Boeing Sky interior. I really just don’t like them. The air vents just don’t put out enough flow.

Boarding continued here in Oslo.

Outside we could see the rear of the plane people boarding, with the rain and cold maybe it was better that we boarded from the front.
Norwegian 737-800 Economy In Flight Review

The boarding door was shut and the flight attendants gave the safety announcement. The pilots gave their welcome and told us it would be about an hour in flight to Stockholm.

Our Norwegian 737 pushed back right on time. It’s a little grey outside and has been for the last few days in Olso, will be nice to get above the clouds and see some sun.

We headed for the runway, I always like seeing airports in the snow. Not sure why but it’s fun to me.

We quickly climbed above the clouds and we could see the blue sky for the first time in a week. When I lived in Cleveland flying out of town in the winter was the time I got to see the sun.

In the cabin all was quiet. I settled into a podcast, there’s no entertainment on offer with Norwegian. It doesn’t really matter, this flight is short.

The tray table on the Norwegian 737 folds in half so you can either have a small tray for just a drink and snack.

Or you can unfold it fully if you wanted to have a larger place for a laptop or a larger meal. Norwegian does run a buy on board service program, but we didn’t partake.
Norwegian 737-800 Arrival into Stockholm

We began descending into ARN and passed through the upper layer of clouds to find more clouds!

It was relatively smooth even though we passed through the clouds. Once we passed the lowest clouds we got our first gimps of snow covered Sweden.

We then touched down here in Arlanda just on time.

We pulled into the gate and we were quickly off the plane and out through baggage claim.
Norwegian 737-800 Final Thoughts
Norwegian is a pretty major carrier in this part of the world. It’s easy to see why, they have very frequent low cost service within and to Scandinavia. Norwegian uses the 737-800 for the bulk of these flights. They do have a few 737 MAX 8 aircraft in the rotation, with more on order, but the -800 is the most common by far.
The Norwegian 737-800 is a perfectly fine ride. There’s nothing exciting or fancy about it, just a good cheap way to fly around. The seat is average but even I found the space a little tight. I didn’t mind on such a short flight, but if it was longer I’d probably be a little uncomfortable. Norwegian does offer a pay on board drink service, but for such a short flight, we just skipped it.
At at the end of the day I was pleased with our Norwegian 737-800 flight. We were on time and for the equivalent of $80 what else could I ask for. Yes, I would fly with Norwegian again.
