On our trip home from Alaska, we’re flying with Delta and the middle leg of the trip is the Delta A321 in First Class. This is a nice length flight that will allow me to review the Delta A321 first class product for a mid-con trip. This is also the first time I’ve had a chance to experience and review the Delta A321 first class hot meal service since 2020. I’ve reviewed the A321 several times, so this is nothing new, but coming straight off a Delta 737-900 if first class it’s nice to compare it directly to the Delta A321.
The A321 is a real work horse in the Delta fleet. It’s the second most numerous plane they operate and is extremely common on these trunk-line hub to hub flights. I usually prefer the A321 to the 737 series of aircraft. This trip didn’t turn out differently, I much preferred the Delta A321 First Class to the Delta 737-900 First Class. We also got a meal on this flight, it’s an early morning flight so breakfast was served.
Bottom Line: The Delta A321 In First Class has good in flight entertainment and comfortable seats. Flying out of Salt Lake City is always pleasant. Breakfast was ok, I do like the pre-selection option, but I didn’t care for my selection.
Let’s get into this Delta A321 First Class Review
Date of trip: September 2022
Delta SLC A321 Boarding
After relaxing in the Salt Lake City Skyclub, we walked down to our boarding gate.

We boarded right on time here in Salt Lake City. SLC is a really pleasant airport to connect in. The Skyclub is fantastic, the airport is modern, and the scenery is fantastic.

We found our seats in the last row on the left hand side of the Delta A321 First Class section. I’m not sure I have a favorite part of the cabin to sit, sometimes I like the last row, other times I want to be in the middle, but I rarely want to be in the bulkhead.
Delta A321 First Class Seat Comfort Review

I settled into my seat after stowing my luggage in the overhead. The leg room on the Delta’s A321 in First class is good and is pretty average for domestic first class. The seat width is very good and the very slightly wider cabin of the A321 feels great.

The Delta A321 has excellent entertainment options in first class. Responsive screens with a wide selection of shows and movies.

Outside the sun was rising, this is a very early departure. Our arrival into SLC was a red-eye from ANC.
Delta A321 SLC Departure

The flight attendants closed the door and informed us the flight down to Atlanta would be just over 4 hours.

As we headed out to the runway, the safety video was shown. The sun was now completely over the horizon and we got to see more of that Utah scenery.

Beautiful clear day for flying. We took off to the South.

I’ve said it before and I’m sure this wont be the last time, but I don’t visit the western US enough. It’s so different from the East Coast and I need to experience it more.
Delta A321 First Class Breakfast Service

Only a few minutes into the flight the very friendly flight attendant came around and confirmed our meal selections. Delta offers pre ordered meals for First Class passengers. We had ordered ahead via the app a few days ago. She also asked if we’d like a beverage, I opted for tea. She also distributed table cloths for our tray tables.

I had previously chosen the charcuterie. I’ll be honest, this was kinda disappointing. While a very pretty plate, there’s no actual charcuterie here. Don’t get me wrong I love cheese, but charcuterie literally means cured meat, and there is none here.

Val had the asparagus quiche and reported that it was very good. Hers was also one of the hot options. I should always just choose what Val choses, her selections whenever we fly look better than mine.

Delta’s cloth napkins do have a little feature that not many people realize or use. There’s a button slot in one of the corners, this keeps the napkin attached to your shirt and from sliding down while you’re eating.

Outside the weather is just perfect. Could not ask for a nicer view of the American West. We settled into the remainder of our Delta A321 flight down to Atlanta.

Our Delta A321 Frist class cabin was pretty quiet on this flight. This is a early flight even though for us it doesn’t feel like it after the red-eye.
Delta A321 First Class Bathroom

The first class bathroom on the Delta A321 is fine. Nothing amazing but not uselessly tiny. There would be enough room in here if you wanted to change pants.
Delta A321 First Class In Flight Review

Back at my seat we’re passing over Kansas and are just under 2 hours from landing in Atlanta.

Outside is not particularly interesting at this point in our flight. The Delta A321 Winglet looks kinda plain, I wonder why Delta does a different design on the A350s but not on the entire fleet.

With about an hour left in the flight, in First Class we the flight attendant came around and offered some more snacks and drinks. I like this chocolate cookies and paired it with some boring water. We’ve been flying and I’m dehydrated.
Delta A321 First Class ATL Arrival

About 25 minutes before arrival, the pilots came on to tell us about Atlanta and the weather on the ground. They also turned on the seat belt sign and asked the flight attendants to prepare for landing. They soon came around and thanked us for flying with Delta and collected anything that needed to be discarded.

Looks like it will be a nice day in Atlanta. We’re running a few minutes early and that’s great for us, there’s an early flight to GSP that I’d like to catch and avoid a very long layover.

Just a few seconds before landing the airport came into view and our flight was over.
Delta A321 First Class Review Final Thoughts
It was interesting to compare the Delta A321 and Delta 737-900 in first class back to back. I’d absolutely choose the A321 if I had the ability. This is also the first time in a while that I’ve had a full Delta meal service in first class on a domestic flight.
The Delta A321 is comfortable in first class. The entertainment is very good and the meal was ok. I like that you can pre-select a meal but I just wasn’t thrilled with my option. Val liked hers and as usual I made a poor choice and should just order whatever she chooses.
We also landed a few minutes early and that allowed us to catch an earlier flight home to Greenville.
