This trip is not my usual boring work travel adventure. This is a personal trip, to attend an event. The first thing we’ve done since early 2020 before COVID hit. We’re fully vaccinated and with it being an outdoor event, we feel pretty safe about it. It’s also nice knowing that the majority of the people attending are also vaccinated.
Spartanburg is not far from our home in Greenville, but it’s fun to get away for a night. Even if it’s just Spartanburg. This hotel reminds me a lot of the Hilton DoubleTree Milwaukee. It’s an older building that’s been well maintained, but isn’t fancy. Let’s get into it.

We entered through the parking garage and walked into the large lobby. As a note, the parking garage is a little hard to find when driving. There’s also not a valet.

We checked in a were assigned a room on the 6th floor. This hotel just has that 1980s feel.

This could be any generic hotel hallway in the world. It just doesn’t get any more boring than this.

Into the room was exactly what you would expect. TV and desk. Because this isn’t a work trip, I didn’t really care about the desk. There also wasn’t a fridge, not a big deal, we had a small cooler, but would have been nice to chill some beverages.

We opted for a king size. There was power on both sides, that’s pretty nice for a hotel of this age. They were in the lamps and not USB, but still, more than good enough for me. The couch was exclusively used as a luggage rack. This bed was actually pretty great too.

We hung our attire in the closet. This is a pretty boring room.

Another generic bathroom. Very clean though so no complaints. This older style bathroom seems to be ubiquitous throughout the US.

This bathroom could use a little updating, at a full blooded Marriot, I would expect a little better. But then again, it’s clean and in good condition, just a little out of fashion.

The view wasn’t bad either. That’s downtown Spartanburg, the lone building is the Denny’s world headquarters. Yes, Denny’s Diners is headquartered in Spartanburg South Carolina.

There was a pool, it’s fun to see the old school lap pool at a hotel and not the new style lagoon pools. We didn’t get a chance to check it out, it was closed after we returned in the evening.

There was a coffee station, however it was in the bathroom. I’m not sure how to feel about this. Feels a little like shitting where you eat, but then again, when I’m at hotels I drink the tap water. I guess it just feels strange.

My fascination with hotel art continues.

End of the day, this isn’t a bad hotel. It was priced right and just what we needed. There is an AC Marriot about 2 block over if you want a slightly better experience. We heard good things, but haven’t visited.
I’d stay here again, I guess that’s as good of a recommendation I can give for Spartanburg.
