Here’s my review of the Home2 Near Universal. It’s right across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn that I stayed in last week. I’ve not stayed at this hotel before, but it was recommended by a colleague as being a little nicer and newer than the HGI so I booked it.

Like most Home2 suites, this is a newer building and all suites. I’ve started to appreciate the suite a little bit more these days. I’m not going out to eat or hangout after work, so it’s nice to have a little more room space to relax in and enjoy my takeout/delivery. For Universal Studios Florida visitors, this would be a good choice. It’s not very expensive, but it’s very close to the main gate. If you are a traveling family, the extra space would be welcome, an adjoining room would really be a “suite” vacation setup.

I’m not here for anything fun, just another long week of work. After my Monday commute from SC then another day at work, I’m at the Hotel. As with all my COVID travel, I’m avoiding the lobby and other crowded areas. I really like the Hilton App because it allows me to completely avoid contact. So here’s the back entrance, the App will let me in with the digital key.

I’m also still avoiding the elevators, the nice thing is that the stairs are usually near side and back entrances.

Wow! that’s a green stairwell.

Very boring hallway. This hotel is nice and clean so far. I would assume this hotel is less than 3 years old.

Into the room, the standard Home2 kitchenette. No cooktop, but you can request one from the front desk, they have small induction units. This whole area is nice to have during these COVID times.

Desk, TV, chair, and rolling desk. Not sure why Home2 has this second rolling desk/table.

Sitting area. There is a curtain that can be used to separate the pull out sofa into a bed if you want a little privacy.

Closet and work space area. I used this for my luggage and then hung up my shirts to avoid them being completely wrinkled.

King sized bed with lots of outlets nearby.

Cleaned and wrapped remote. While I know this is mostly cleaning theater, I do appreciate the effort.

Nice and clean bathroom.

I’ll note that this hotel(and most Home2s) have pocket doors. I don’t mind them, but if you’re with small kids or older people they can be a little tricky for their hands.

Pollo Tropical is one of my favorite quick eats. There’s one less than a mile away, quarter chicken(dark meat), beans, rice, and plantains is a delicious meal. This is a big reason why I like the suit, I can eat in a different area than I’m working or sleeping. It’s not much, but it’s something.

The view from the window. Lots of new construction Universal Studios owned hotels. I’m told these are brand new for this year and they are nearly empty. I really feel for the people who work there.

Final Thoughts

This is a boring hotel; that’s a good thing for me. I would absolutely stay here again. If you are planning a Universal Florida vacation, I would wholly recommend this hotel. Clean, quiet, and comfortable, what more could you want.
