GSP-DTW-IAD

My day on a Delta 717 Economy, DTW Terminal A Center Skyclub, Delta CRJ900 Domestic First, IAD BA lounge.

My goal of the day was to pick up 4 segments as cheaply as possible. For the outbound I selected a basic economy fare. The 2 planes on this trip are a 717 and CRJ900. I’ll take the small gamble of a middle seat on the 717 to save $35. All the flights are short anyway.

The day started very early. Having to wake up at 4AM always sounds like a bad idea.

After a quick drive to GSP, there was no line at PreCheck so I’m through to the gate very quickly.

My ride up to DTW is a nice 717

My seat 18B.

Mid flight snack, Cheez-Its and water. Nothing fancy.

After landing in DTW. This is one of my favorite airport terminals in the US.

I walked into the Center A Skyclub for some breakfast. The lounge was mostly empty on a Wednesday morning. I got some eggs, cheese, ham, and a tortilla.

After about an hour, I walked down to my departure gate. Right across from my CRJ900 ride, there was a nice A350 about to depart for Tokyo.

Then I hear those wonderful words “we’re looking for someone with some schedule flexibility”
I jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately they had 2 no-shows so I was the last to board and no volunteers were needed. However they noticed my Gold Medallion status and gave me an empty first class seat. Not really supposed to happen, but the flight needed to push and it was empty. So when Delta has time, you board you loose is flexible. When they are pressed for time, the old YBUL still holds.

This was one of Delta’s newest CRJ900s. It had the larger overhead bins that accommodate a true carry on. It also had the overhead mood lighting and the updated galley area.

My seat, 3D. Lots of room. These CRJ900s are nice for a regional jet.

My next snack. Cheez-Its, a banana, and a water. I’m quite boring.

Nice day of flying.

Landing at Dullas

Quickly into the terminal. A and B at IAD feel very international with the number of different airlines. It’s a fun place to walk though.

I then stopped by the British Airways Lounge for lunch. Only to find the lounge sufficiently terrible and mostly closed. I attempted to visit the Turkish lounge, but my Priority Pass was turned away. Priority Pass continues to be garbage.

The extend of the “food.” String cheese and yogurt.

I then walked outside to catch a local bus.
