Today I’m heading to Omaha on a Delta A320 in first class. I don’t think I’ve actually reviewed the Delta A320 in first class so that’s a new one for Kinda Boring. First I’ll be riding GSP-ATL on a Delta 737-900 in economy, I’ve reviewed that plane lots of times so I’ll be brief so we can see the Delta A320 in First Class.
Welcome back to GSP. Back to work for me after a few weeks at home. This is pretty normal for me, few weeks home, then a week away.
This one is a little odd as I’m not traveling first thing in the morning, and I’m also doing a full 4 night trip. It’s Monday afternoon and I don’t return until Friday evening. I much prefer a 3 night trip, but sometimes that just doesn’t fit my work schedule.
Today’s airplane are a Delta 737-900 in an economy exit row seat. Then the second airplane is a Delta A320 in first class. I haven’t been on a Delta A320 in a while so will be nice to check out first class on that plane again.

GSP Airport

GSP is very busy this morning, not really sure why, it’s just a regular Monday in February. I’ve never seen more people lined up at the TSA checkpoint at GSP then I saw today. There was even a line for PreCheck, that never happens. I was soon through, even though I only parked an hour before the flight, I still had about 15 minutes to kill at the gate before boarding.

Today’s upgrade list had 59 people on it. That’s more than 1/3 of the plane and that’s after presumably nearly filling the 20 first class seats. GSP is a medallion heavy market, upgrades are hard to snag. Even as a Platinum Medallion.
Delta 737-900 Exit Row Brief Review

I soon found my exit row seat here on the Delta 737-900 in row 19. I’ve reviewed this seat a few times before, it’s still good, but I’m still not a huge fan of the 737-900.

It’s warm here in Greenville but is scheduled to be below zero F during the week so I’m bringing my heavy jacket. Still have plenty of underseat storage.
There’s power in each row, and each seat has its own USB power in the in seat screen. These screens are good, lots of selection and responsive. The pilots gave their welcome and told us it’s a 33 minute flight and should be smooth down to ATL.

The flight attendant also came and gave her exit row safety briefing. After, I settled into a podcast and the flight attendants closed the door for push back.
As we pushed back, the safety video was presented. It has an Olympics flavor these days as Delta is the official sponsor.
Our Delta 737-900 took off to the North East so we immediately made our turn South towards Atlanta. Looks like the sun is just starting to peak through the clouds.

This is not a particularly interesting flight, the flight attendants made their in air welcome announcement. No service in the main cabin on this 33 minute flight.
Doesn’t seem like the pilots will be turning off the seatbelt sign. It’s a little rough and this flight is short.
A few minutes later we had begun our decent into ATL. The pilots told us it would be about 18 minutes before we landed. Little bumpy, but not a big deal. Just enough to keep the seatbelt sign on, not enough to be uncomfortable.

We landed right on time into ATL on a pretty grey Monday morning.

We arrived from GSP into the A concourse at ATL. My next flight is out of the B concourse so I’ll be heading that way. I have a pretty short layover today so no time to stop.
Delta A320 First Class Boarding Review

After my quick layover, we soon boarded again the Delta A320 to Omaha. Today I’ll be riding in first class on the Delta A320. I don’t think I’ve ever done a review of the Delta A320.

It’s not particularly different from the A319/321. These are some of the oldest planes in the Delta fleet but you wouldn’t know it.
Delta A320 First Class Seating Review

I found my window seat on the left side of the plane in the second row. The Delta A320 has 16 first class seats in 4 rows.

These first class seats on the Delta A320 are comfortable, but nothing amazing, just a big comfortable recliner. It’s a domestic first class seat, so it’s better than economy and I’m glad to have the upgrade.

There’s excellent inseat entertainment. These screens are nice and responsive. There’s also power available in each seat, both USB and 110v.

Plenty of legroom in the second row of first class on the Delta A320. I also prefer these overhead panels than on the 737-900. The air vents here actually put out a good amount of flow. The mood lights are also cool.
Delta A320 First Class Departure Review

The flight attendants informed us of our 118 minute flight over to Omaha. OMA is a new airport and city for me. I don’t usually cover that far west but happens some times. It’s kinda gross weather here in the South East US today.

The flight is actually showing an early departure, that’s a little unusual but not unheard of. I’m always glad to be ontime. He also mentioned that we are weight limited today. The flight attendant distributed water bottles to the First Class cabin.

The rain is starting to fall a little harder than when we landed. The pilots then gave their welcome, he mentioned that our APU isn’t working today, not a big deal, just will have to startup one of engines at the gate before we push back.
The APU is a little turbine engine that lives in the tail. It’s used to provide power and air-conditioning while on the ground. Among other things, it also is used to provide enough compressed air to start the engines. Without one, we’ll need to use a start cart here at the gate to fire up our engines.
The door was soon closed and the flight attendants made their way through the cabin to collect any trash. The safety video was played and the cabin lights were dimmed as we pushed back.

While we climbed out through the rain, it was a little bumpy but like last flight, nothing major. The flight attendants soon started their service.
Delta A320 First Class Snack Service Review

First the came around with a snack basket. Seems like there’s a few changes since last time. I opted for a nice bag of chips. I’m a little bummed there isn’t a Cheez-It or goldfish option. Next the flight attendant asked about a drink. Usually I’d just skip it, but I’d like a coke today. The A320 has a nice little feature, an extra little beverage tray between the first class seats. Perfect for a little extra space.

I put on a movie as I enjoyed my snack. The pilots turned off the seatbelt sign as it had become smooth once we passed through the final layer of clouds. I slightly reclined seat and settled into the flight.
Delta A320 First Class In Flight Review

The flight attendant came through and asked if we wanted anything else and collected any trash from the snacks earlier. It was a beautiful day to fly on this Delta A320.

It also started getting a little bit rough and the plot turned the seatbelt sign back on. Nothing major, just a few bumps.

Just 10 minutes later as our Delta A320 passed over St. Louis the seat belt sign was turned off. There are some nice views of the plains below. This is definitely a part of the country that I’ve not explored.

My movie ended so I decided to watch a little Arrested Development. We’re only about 45 minutes from landing and I don’t want to start a new movie, not enough time to finish.
Delta A320 First Class Decent and Arrival Review

About 20 minutes before landed, the pilot again came on and gave his pre-landing announcement. The seatbelt sign was turned back on. The flight attendants began their landing announcements as well. They also came through and collected trash and other items.

We descended below the clouds and into the flatness that is the middle of the country. I should have gone to the bathroom a few minutes ago, I kinda have to pee. Oh well, I’ll make it to OMA.
With about 10 minutes left in the flight, the lights were brought back up and the final announcement was made.

The flight attendant came around to First class to thank all of us individually just before taking his seat for landing. I wonder what those berms are, I’ll do a little research…
Omaha Airport Arrival

And onto the ground here at OMA. The flight attendant made his departure announcement and finished it with the Bob Barker signature line, “Don’t forget to spade and neuter your pets.” I got a nice little laugh out of that.

On my way out to the rental car facility and to work.
Delta A320 First Class Final Thoughts
I like the Delta A320 in first class. It’s comfortable, quite, and has great entertainment options. While these planes might be pushing nearly 30 years old, you’d never know. Delta does such a good job at keeping them updated. These Delta A320s don’t fly super long routes and it’s hard to thing of a more comfortable short haul aircraft in First Class.
I’m glad to I got to review this Delta A320, we don’t see them very often in Greenville and it seems like most of my destinations lately haven’t included them.
End of the day this was a very pleasant way to get to Omaha. Now I have to go brave the cold. The high today is 7 degrees Fahrenheit…
