Completely unintentionally, the Hotel Indigo Helsinki will be the second Hotel Indigo that we’ve stayed at and reviewing this trip. When looking at hotels for vacations, I’m not particularly loyal to any one brand or family of hotels. I chose the Hotel Indigo Helsinki based on it’s good reviews and seemingly good location in the city.

Hotel Indigo is a brand I usually enjoy when I stay there. They have a boutique feel but you can still earn or burn IHG points. I’m not not a big spender at IHG, but I stay with enough of their brands that I do hold Platinum Status with them. This doesn’t really do anything, but we did get a few free drinks at the bar while here at the Hotel Indigo Helsinki.

Helsinki is our last destination of our winter Europe trip. The days are short and it’s very cold, but we enjoyed our visit. Anyway, let’s get into my review of the Hotel Indigo Helsinki.

In This Trip

Hotel Indigo Helsinki Location

We’ve never been to Helsinki so it’s always a little bit of a gamble as to knowing what areas are best. A quick peruse of google maps and it seemed like the Kamppi and Punavuori neighborhood would be the perfect area for us to base our visit. The Hotel Indigo Helsinki is just on the boarder between the two and is right off a tram line that can take you to the train station or around town.

Hotel Indigo Helsinki Lobby and Check-in

The Hotel Indigo Helsinki is modern and trendy. It has lots of Nordic flair. The check in process was fast and easy. We were told about the breakfast options, the hotel features, and the bar.

Throughout the lobby were a few sitting areas where you could relax or get a drink from the bar. I loved the design of the space. It was also extremely well kept and clean.

The bar to the right was small but also well stocked. It being winter time they had Glögi available. Glögi is a hot mulled wine very similar to Gluhwein in the Germanic world.

Hotel Indigo Helsinki Room Review

Walking in, the room was bright and clean.

The bed was extremely comfortable. In the style of much of Northern Europe, there are two separate comforters, one for each person. There are plenty of lights and power outlets near the bed.

The room had a few pieces of furniture, all very Nordic and simple. While not a huge room, it was more than big enough for the two of us and our small luggage.

Opposite from the bed was the TV and small desk. The TV had a nice casting feature so we could watch content from our phones. There’s also an electric kettle here on the desk. The wallpaper had lots of Finnish hints and Helsinki land marks. Val really enjoyed it.

Near the bed are some shadow boxes that had jewelry from local shops. It could be purchased in the lobby, seemed a little weird to me but I don’t wear earrings.

Hotel Indigo Helsinki Room Features

The closet here in the Indigo Helsinki is orange, and I mean really orange. Inside is a Nespresso machine, mugs, coffee, tea, and a small fridge.

The light inside the closet was light activated. Nice little touch and it’s cold here in Finland so we obviously made good use of the closet to store our winter gear.

Enjoying a coffee in bed is one of our sweet vacation pleasures. The little mugs were a nice touch.

As has become more common around the world, there was a card slot near the door to turn all of the lights on and off at once. I really like these as I’m less likely to loose my room key.

Hotel Indigo Helsinki Bathroom

The bathroom at the Hotel Indigo, like the rest of the hotel, was bright and stylish. This room was also extremely clean.

The shower was also very nice, however, there is frosted glass separating the shower from the bedroom area, not an issue if you’re traveling with your spouse, but I wouldn’t want to stay here with my mother.

Hotel Indigo Public Spaces and Bar

The hallways are again bright and clean. There’s a lightly industrial feel to it all but it’s interlaced with local flavored art.

Once evening we went to the bar before dinner to enjoy our complementary beverages. They also have a full restaurant in the Hotel Indigo if you are so inclined. We just enjoyed some local beers before heading out into the cold.

Hotel Indigo Final Thoughts

The Hotel Indigo Helsinki is a great hotel that I would gladly stay at again. The location was perfect for our first visit to Helsinki. The neighborhood was close to the train station, restaurants, and bars. Because the Christmas markets were in full swing we were also able to walk there.

The Hotel itself was clean, bright, and very quiet. It’s everything I’m looking for out of a hotel on vacation. I very much enjoyed the Helsinki art that was scattered around the hotel, so while being a chain made it feel a little more local and like a boutique hotel. The bottom line is that this is a excellent hotel in a perfect location.
