Continuing our trip around the world, we’re stopping in Zurich for a few days. While here, we are staying at the Altstadt Hotel. I chose this hotel because the location was right in the middle of town, the attic rooms looked really fun and unique, and I’ve been on a bit of a boutique hotel kick lately. I’m really glad I chose the Altstadt hotel, it was a perfect fit for what we needed on this visit. I would gladly say here again.
Bottom Line: We loved the Altstadt Hotel here in Zurich. The rooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable. The location was a short walk to the train station and right in the center of the city.
Altstadt Boutique Hotel Zurich Location
As I said, the Altstadt hotel is located right in the middle of town. Just a few feet away from the water. This is a perfect location for our visit. There are bars, restaurants, cafes, and shopping all over this neighborhood. I also loved the quick access to the public transit options.
Altstadt Boutique Hotel Zurich Check-In
The hotel is pretty unassuming, it’s stuffed in between some shops here on a small walking street(that’s under construction).
The check in process is pretty easy, but does depend on what time you arrive. If you get here while the cafe/bar on the first floor is open, you just check in when them. Otherwise there’s a key box. You’re given a code and get a key to the exterior door. You then take that exterior key, insert it into the lock under your room number, and it will release the room key.

I opted for a top floor attic room when I was booking. When we walked in, I was really pleased with my selection. The room was large and light. One small downside is there’s not super convenient charging for devices next to the bed.
The roof does take up some head space towards the windows, but that’s ok with me. There’s also the beams that run though the space, but again, I really like it.
Looking the other direction there is a small desk along with the TV.
Around the room there is a selection of books. It’s a kinda cute little touch for a boutique hotel to have.

To the right is the bathroom. While small, it’s well appointed and very clean.

Because we’re in the attic rooms, the windows are in the roof. So the view isn’t great but there are motorized blinds built in so at least there’s plenty of darkness at night.

Each room there is a little mini bar with drinks and some snacks. While not complementary, the pricing was very reasonable.
Altstadt Boutique Hotel Zurich Final Thoughts
I’ve long been on a boutique hotel kick and the Altstadt hotel here in Zurich is certainly fulfilling that desire. The hotel was cute, comfortable, and in a great location. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and while our attic room didn’t have a great view outside, I loved the uniqueness of the space.
When we visit Zurich again, I will gladly stay at the Altstadt hotel again.
