Interesting or unique aircraft are always fun to ride on. An A380 certainly qualifies as both as it’s the largest passenger jet every built and they are no longer in production. Singapore Airlines Business Class is top notch so combining the Singapore Business Class on the A380 should be a treat. I’ve been looking forward to this flight for a while now and I’m happy to report I was very impressed.

Singapore Airlines has a few different business class seats, depending on the aircraft and I think the A380 business class is my favorite. The seats are large, private, and comfortable. The service is impeccable, food is delicious, and cabin is quiet. All around, to me, this is the gold standard that all other airlines’ business class should be measured. Our flight was from Singapore to Frankfurt, this is a daytime flight that takes about 13 hours.

Bottom Line: Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class is excellent. Genuinely an enjoyable and pleasant experience all around. If I had to make a complaint, best I can come up with is lack of overhead air vent.

Singapore A380 Boarding

Singapore’s airport is a little different than most, security is done right at the gate. So don’t go to the gate before boarding is called, there’s nothing past security, just seats for waiting. We spent our time in the excellent Singapore Business Class Lounge here at Terminal 3.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Boarding

We’re departing from one of the few secured areas that serves more than one gate, here there are 3. Boarding had been called and started before we arrived, perfect timing.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Boarding

The A380 is a very large plane, because it has 2 levels, it uses multiple jet bridges. Singapore First Class and Business Class are on the upper deck and use their own jet bridge. The whole process is well marked.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Cabin and Seats

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Seat

We made our way to our seats on the left hand side of the plane. First impressions are really good. The Singapore Business Class seats are large, have good privacy screening, and tons of features.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Seat

Looking into the business class seat from behind in the aisle. These seats are similar to the ones on the Singapore A350, but a little different in that they recline instead of folding forward, a big improvement in my opinion.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Cabin

The Cabin on the upper deck of the Singapore A380 does feel a little narrow. Due to the curvature of the fuselage, the walls slope in more than you’d expect for such a large plane.

Singapore A380 Business Class Seat Features

Singapore Airlines Business Class seats on the A380 are loaded with features. Storage cubbies, lights, remote controls, several power ports, movable arm rests make the extra wide seats seem over the top.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Seat Features

The basic seat is forward facing and very wide. But when you recline, there’s a foot well towards the windows to lie down.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Seat Features

In the seat everything is pretty normal. Ahead is the in seat entertainment, to my left is a small table with the seat controls, and along the wall you can see the footwell with bedding.

Next to the in seat screen there is a small storage compartment. I’m always worried about putting stuff into these and forgetting it.

Both sides of the seat have small foldable arm rests. I don’t really find them useful but I’m sure someone likes them.

Just above the left armrest are the seat controls and button to eject the tray table.

Over my left shoulder is a reading light.

Continuing down the left side there is a mirror with vanity light, remote for the in seat entertainment, USB power, headphone port, and then some amenities. Singapore doesn’t do a normal amenity kit here in business class, but does provide socks, slippers, and an eye mask.

Overhead there is a light. Unfortunately Singapore doesn’t include an overhead air vent, I’m really not sure why airlines are omitting them from business class.

Near my knee, there is another storage area with the safety card, headphones, menu, and more storage cubbies.

Behind the little cover is another USB power port and a Universal AC power port to charge devices. There’s also a tap to pay reader, not sure about that either…

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Bedding

Finally the bedding is stored in the footwell area. I like that Singapore includes a mattress cover along with a blanket and pillow.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class In Seat Entertainment

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class In Seat Entertainment

Singapore Airlines has great in seat entertainment. The A380 business class screens are touch screens, unlike those on the A350. While they are not huge, they are very responsive screens and because they are somewhat close to you, the size is just about right.

The selection of movies and shows is very good. There’s also a moving map, games, and music to listen to.

We headed towards the runway as the rain was falling here in Singapore.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Take Off

We took off and we’re soon over the waters surrounding Singapore. The A380 is a little disorienting, the wings are absolutely huge, but because we’re up on the top deck, they seem far away. It’s also very quiet during takeoff.

We were soon passing through the clouds and making our turn towards Frankfurt.

Singapore A380 Business Class Menu

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Menu

Singapore Airlines has pretty great catering, especially when departing from SIN. There were menus in our seat, but I had used Singapore Airlines’ Book the Cook option ahead of time to pre-order. This gives a much wider selection of meals.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Lunch

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Lunch

Singapore Airlines Business Class really shines when it comes to meal time. Soon after takeoff, the flight attendants came through and began lunch. On their long haul flights, at least one meal will start with the chicken satay. They are served as an appetizer and are tasty.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Lunch

Next my tray was set for the full lunch service. The Flight attendant also confirmed my pre-order meal selection.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Lunch

First was a salad. I quite liked it, but I’m a sucker for pickled onion and potato.

The flight attendant came around offering bread. I usually go for the garlic bread.

Next my main was served. I opted for the pork belly served with rice and vegetables. It was pretty good, but not my favorite Singapore Airlines meal.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Lunch

For desert I had some fruit and then wanted to get settled in for a little rest. All in, the meal was good, but I should have chosen a different entree. The selection was vast and I could have done better.

After our meal the lights were dimmed and I settled into my seat.

I finished watching my movie before I made up my bed. This flight is just about 12 hours, long enough that I should be able to sleep, but it’s a daytime flight so that’s tricky.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Bedding

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Sleep Experience

I made up my seat using the bedding provided. There’s a mattress, comforter, and two pillows. I really like Singapore’s bedding, especially that they include a mattress.

I was able to get a good 3 hours of sleep like this. Not bad for a flight that departs mid-day.

Singapore Airlines A380 Lavatory

The lavatories on the Singapore A380 upper deck business class cabin are large and were kept very clean through the flight.

Something I’ve been paying more attention to lately is the changing table situation. Singapore has nice large changing tables here in the business class lavatory.

Singapore Airlines Business Class Pre-Arrival Meal

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Pre-arrival Meal

With about 2 hours left in the flight a second meal was served. Again I had pre-ordered online. This meal was a 10/10 for me. The appetizer was seared tuna and served cold. This was very good.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Pre-arrival Meal

For my main I had char-siu pork with noodles and wonton. This is one of my favorite Singapore Airlines Business Class meals. I’ve had it before and it’s great.

No desert for me this time, I’m so full from all of the meals they’ve served on this trip.

After the second meal, the flight attendants began the landing preparations. The lights were turned on and they passed through and helped to stow bedding and luggage.

I stuffed my bedding into the foot well, put my seat up, and put my boots back on. I was very tired but content to just watch my movie.

Outside it looks like it’s a cold and somewhat cloudy day in Germany. Not really a surprise considering the time of year.

A few minutes later we touched down at FRA right on time.

Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class Final Thoughts

Singapore Airlines Business Class is the yardstick by which I will compare all airlines to. They just do such a good job, every step of the way. Singapore Airport is fast and efficient. The A380 is spacious, quiet, clean, and comfortable. Every single flight attendant is pleasant and friendly. While I didn’t love both of my meals, one was fantastic.

Really, flying with Singapore Airlines is a treat. If given the opportunity, I’ll always choose Singapore. There’s just not a better way to travel, especially long haul.
