I’m heading to Hamilton Ontario for a work trip. Hamilton gets a bad rap and I’m really not sure why. It’s just an industrial city that’s got some rough spots. Kinda like the industrial Midwest(Detroit, Cleveland, etc) I enjoyed staying in Downtown Hamilton and have gladly stayed here at the Hampton Inn since this visit.
I know this is a kinda boring trip and location, but if you’re going to Hamilton and looking for a decent hotel, the Hampton Inn is a great choice. It appears to be a brand new property so it’s in great shape and clean. The rooms are quite and the free included breakfast is good enough, it’s still a Hampton Inn after all.
Bottom Line: While the site I was visiting might have given me a hard time about staying downtown Hamilton, I enjoyed the Hampton Inn. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants to walk to, the hotel is clean and comfortable, and there’s an attached parking garage for when the weather is cold.
Hampton Inn Hamilton ON Location
The Hampton Inn in Hamilton Ontario is located on the western end of Downtown Hamilton. This is a great location and just 2 blocks away from Hess St. At Hess and George there is a great walking street that is full of bars, restaurants, and shops. This is where I went for dinner each night and had way more options that I had nights.

The Hampton Inn Hamilton has an underground parking garage to keep the snow off your car in the winter. It’s also gated so you need a key card to enter. I checked in on my phone and didn’t need to stop at the front desk for a key.
Hampton Inn Hamilton ON King Room

I was able to go right up to my room. I can’t remember what floor I was on, but I got a great corner room. It was high enough to have a nice view as well.

Room arrangement was pretty standard but I have a corner room so I get a little more space. The king bed is facing the window. Along the wall there is a sofa opposite the TV and desk.

Looking back into the room from the far corner. I did find the bed to be very comfortable. I’ve seen that same headboard in like 10 different Hampton Inns.

There are a lot of windows in this Hampton Inn room. I do appreciate having a sofa in a hotel room when I’m working. Then I don’t just go from bed, to work, to desk, to bed. I can sit and relax on the sofa for a little bit.

The TV is on the side wall in relation to the bed. There’s a microwave and mini-fridge in the TV stand. The Tv can pull away on a swivel stand and face the bed.

On the night stand there is an alarm clock with US ports and outlets to charge devices. Both sides of the bed have outlets.
Hampton Inn Hamilton ON Bathroom

The bathroom was nice and clean. It was also very large with a big vanity.

The opposite wall had the shower. No tub in this room, I’m 100% ok with that. I don’t much care for a tub in a hotel room(or at home for that matter).
Hampton Inn Hamilton ON Room View

From the windows on the side of the room I had a nice view looking East towards Hamilton. I’m high enough up that I didn’t hear any street noise.

Looking from the adjacent window there was a much different view of Scottish Rite Freemasons. I like the brick architecture of that building a lot.
Hampton Inn Hamilton ON Breakfast

Like all Hampton Inns, the Hamilton hotel has a free breakfast served on the 3rd floor. Nothing super exciting to report back here. Mostly continental items with a few hot options.

They have a make your own waffle station that was popular with the families staying at the hotel.

I stuck with cereal because I’m very boring.

There is of course juice, bread items, and a rotating hot option. Most days were some sort of egg, potato, and breakfast meat.
Hampton Inn Hamilton ON Final Thoughts
I liked the Hampton Inn in Hamilton Ontario. I also think that Hamilton has a somewhat undeserved reputation. Sure, there are bad parts of town you don’t want to be out in. There is some level of homelessness and drug use but for the most part, I enjoyed my time here. I was always able to get a nice dinner, there were a bunch of different options within easy walking distance of the Hampton Inn.
I liked my corner room at the Hampton Inn Hamilton. It was large and clean. Plenty of space for me during my week long stay. The bathroom was clean and had a nice standing shower, no tub. I didn’t really think the free breakfast was anything special, but I’m not expecting it from a Hampton Inn. I liked the underground parking garage and it’s easy access from the hotel.
I’d gladly stay here at the Hampton Inn in Hamilton again, in fact, I have already on a trip a few weeks later.
