Thailand has long been a destination on our must visit list. When some friends invited us to join their trip, we jumped on the opportunity. Our first stop in Thailand is Bangkok and we’re staying at the Kimpton Maa-Lai Hotel. We arrived here on Singapore Airlines 787 in Business Class. The Bangkok Kimpton was a real treat. A tip top experience from start to finish. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and our room was amazing. The location is great for visitors, but like much of Bangkok, is somewhat car dependent.
Bottom Line: The Kimpton Maa-Lai Bankok is an amazing property. The Kimpton is a high end property with all the amenities you’d expect, like the rooftop pool and seemingly endless breakfast buffet. I can wholly recommend the Kimpton Bangkok.
Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok Location
The Kimpton is located on the east side of Bangkok near the Pathum Wan area. This area is a lot of high end shopping and top tier hotels. Not usually my cup of tea, but we were looking for a little bit more of a relaxing vacation and the Kimpton was the ticket.
To get here we took a taxi from the airport. Once here, we relied mostly on Grab to get around. For public transportation we were able to use BTS Skytrain and MRT subway lines, they are a bit of a walk, but perfectly doable.

We arrived at the Kimpton in the early evening. First impressions are very good, I love a good boutique hotel, but on occasion, I enjoy a full service 5 star property.

We were offered some juice at the front desk along with some expanding towels. Those little white pills were placed into the water and expanded into a moist towelette. During check in we were told that we had been upgraded to a suite, I was very excited to see what the room would look like.

We were escorted up to our room and it was very impressive. We walked into the living room. Behind me there is a powder room, the door at the end is to the bedroom, and behind the curtains is the balcony.
The sitting area in the living room had two sofas, table, and the TV. The whole room was really spotless too.

On the table, we were given some welcome gifts and snacks. I booked this hotel via American Express.

I thought the bed was a little too soft, but Val loved it. Both sides of the bed have their own room controls along with power to charge devices.

Behind the bed is a hallway that leads to the bathroom on the right and the closet on the left. At the back is another bar-top with a fridge.

The main bathroom was very spacious at the Kimpton Bangkok. There’s dual sinks, a large bathtub, shower, and in the back is a private toilet area.

The king suite had a balcony on one side attached to the living room. This is also a corner room so there’s 2 different views.

From the bedroom, there’s a view looking west towards central Bangkok. The view at night was my favorite.
Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok Breakfast Buffet
I’m not usually one to eat breakfast at the hotel, the first day here at the Kimpton Bangkok we didn’t, we went out. But the second day we decided to head to The Stock Room breakfast buffet. I have to say, this is one of the all time great breakfast buffets at any hotel.

Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok Pool Area
The Kimpton Bangkok had an amazing pool area. This is located on the 3rd floor and overlooks the garden area just outside the hotel. We spent some time here in the afternoons when it was hot out and after exploring the city.
The pool is a large L shape and we never found it to be crowded.
Surrounding the pool are chairs, tables, and small private cabanas. They are first come first serve for the most part, but some are reserved.

The pool bar has a selection of drinks and snacks. We used some of our Amex credit here to get some drinks while we relaxed in the pool.

Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok Rooftop Bar
The rooftop of the Kimpton has a bar and restaurant. One night, after dinner we came back and got some drinks while gazing at the skyline.
It was quite a nice view from here on the roof and a great way to close the night.

The Kimpton Bangkok is an amazing hotel. It just does everything right. The staff are super friendly, the hotel is clean, modern, and comfortable. Our upgrade to a suite was obviously welcome and we really enjoyed having all the space to spread out and relax. Speaking of relaxing, the infinity pool on the 3rd floor is a real gem. Perfect for cooling off after spending time exploring Bangkok. I even liked the hotel breakfast, something that I rarely say.
If I had to say something bad about the Kimpton, it would be the distance to public transportation. It’s a bit of a walk but certainly possible.
All in, the Kimpton Bangkok is a great place to stay and I would completely recommend it.
