10 years ago Val and I visited Amsterdam for New Years. We stayed here at the Hotel Notting Hill. I liked the hotel back in 2015 so we decided to stay here again on this trip. We’re going to be here for 3 nights and I’m looking forward to see how the Hotel Notting Hill and Amsterdam have changed.

Bottom Line: I liked the Hotel Notting Hill well enough on this trip. I think I would have liked it more had we been given the room we originally booked. The rooms are clean and comfortable, but there is a little noise. With that said, the location is great for exploring central Amsterdam.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Location

The Hotel Notting Hill is located in the city center of Amsterdam. It’s just on the inside of the outer most canal that separates the center from the outer neighborhoods. This is a great location for touring the city. It’s easy to get to the public transportation options of trams and trains. (Full Amsterdam Tram Guide) Popular places like the Rijksmuseum and Heineken Brewery are about a 15 minute walk.

If you want to get slightly out of the city center and into the more neighborhood part of Amsterdam, that’s also just a tram ride away. The airport is about 35 minutes on a combination tram and train.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Check In

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Entrance

We checked into the Hotel Nitting Hill after arriving pretty early in the morning. I wasn’t expecting to get into our room, so we just dropped our luggage. The hotel desk said they’d put our bags in our room so when we returned, we just need to pickup keys.

Here’s where things went a little wrong. I had reserved a top floor room. I like the quiet of being high up above the street and with no one above us. So if I have the ability, I’ll book it. When we returned, we were given a ground floor room right off the bar. I asked for us to have the top floor room I had reserved but they were sold out. We were moved to a 3rd floor room that was a little better, but still disappointing.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam King Room

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Room

Walking into our new room, everything is pretty much as I remembered from 10 years ago. The rooms are quite large for being in the center of Amsterdam. Plenty of space for 2 people with luggage. The TV is opposite of the bed. I also liked that this was a corner room. Having windows on 3 sides is super nice for natural light.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Bed

The bed was clean and comfortable. Both sides of the bed have a table, controls for the lights, and outlets to charge devices.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Closet

While there’s no true closet, there is a large wardrobe in the corner of the room to serve that function.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Tea and Coffee

Inside the wardrobe there are tea and coffee making facilities.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Mini Fridge

Below that, there is a small fridge and some provided water bottles. I do like when a hotel has a mini fridge, even if it’s just for keeping water cool.

Hotel Notting Hill Amsterdam Desk

Near the front door there was a glass desk and sitting chair. We mostly used this area as a coat rack and luggage rack.

Hotel Notting Hill Bathroom

The bathroom was bright and clean. There’s a lot of space in here so if you’re a couple, both people can get cleaned up and ready at the same time.

The shower was a good size and I always appreciate a nice shower. Only downside is there’s a lot of marble in here and it’s just a little bland. I’m not going to complain about a clean bathroom though.

Our room view was great. Nice looking out over the canal in the mornings. The only downside to this location is there’s a decent amount of noise from the road and people walking by below.

Hotel Notting Hill Final Thoughts

Val and I stayed here at the Hotting Hill more than a decade ago and loved it. This time was a little less special but it was still a nice hotel. If we had been given our reserved room I would call it a perfect stay. Kinda funny how little things can make a huge difference in a hotel stay.

As for the hotel itself, the rooms are plenty of spacious for 2 people. I liked that they were clean and comfortable, even if ours was a little noisy. The bathroom was spotless but a little bland, nothing I’d call bad.

I will say, for being 10 years later since our first stay, the Hotel Notting Hill has been very kept. They are doing a good job with maintenance and upkeep. I would gladly stay here again.
