On my week long work trip that had me in New Jersey and then Ohio, I’m staying a few nights in the Homewood Suites here in Mason Ohio. As usual, I chose this hotel because it is very close to where I’ll be working. I also chose the Homewood Mason because I wanted some space to spread out as I need to do some work from the hotel. I mostly know what to expect from a Homewood Suites, the Cincinnati Mason version is no different. The Homewood Mason is basically a carbon copy of Homewood Suites Raleigh Cary I-40(Review here).
Bottom Line: I liked the Homewood Suites Cincinnati Mason. The hotel was clean, quiet, comfortable and each room has a serviceable kitchen. Homewood Mason offers a free hot breakfast and a weekly happy hour. The area was a little odd, the Homewood is basically in a suburban neighborhood. At least there’s a Skyline Chili, Whole Foods, and plethora of restaurants in the area.
Homewood Suites Cincinnati Mason Ohio Location
The Homewood Cincinnati Mason is obviously located in Mason Ohio. This is a small suburb located about 20 miles north of Cincinnati. There’s a few shopping centers in the area along with restaurants and bars. This is a very car dependent area, you can probably walk to a few places from the Homewood, but not many.

For me, I was glad there’s a Whole Foods. I was able to grab somewhat healthy lunches, that’s been a goal of mine this year while traveling and it’s often difficult. And being Southern Ohio, there’s of course a Skyline just a few minute drive away.
Homewood Suites Mason Check-in and Lobby

I arrived at the hotel just after sundown. This is a relatively new hotel. There’s plenty of parking out front and then all around the exterior of the hotel.

I had already checked in using the Hilton App. This is an area that I think Hilton has an adbantage over any of the other major hotel chains. The lobby was big and open. To the left is a small “business center.” To the right is the front desk and small shop with some sundry items. Straight ahead is the breakfast area that also doubles as the happy hour area.
Homewood Suites Mason King Room Review

I walked into the King Room at the Homewood Mason and got a pretty strong déjà vu from the Homewood Raleigh(Full Review if you’re intrested). Ahead is the main part of the room devided into a bed area along with the living room. To my right is the kitchen area.

I like that Homewood Suites have a sofa area. This allows me to relax in a different space than just sitting on the bed. This sofa can pull out into a bed. There’s bedding in the closet.

Opposite the sofa is the king bed. Both sides of the bed have outlets to charge devices, lamps, and there’s an alarm clock(not a very exciting one). I really liked the bed, it was firm and the pillows were soft. That’s the perfect combination for me.

You can see how the large room is divided. The TV can swivel between pointing at the sofa or the bed. All in, this room really does feel like a small apartment.

There was a great work desk for me. This desk could also be moved away from the wall and used as a table. If you needed a place to stay for a little longer than a few days, the Homewood Mason would be a great choice.
Homewood Suites Mason Kitchen

Like most Homewood suites, the Mason hotel has a small kitchenette in each room. They are very well outfitted and you could easily cook a decent meal here. There’s a full sized microwave, 2 burner stove top, dishwasher, and full size refrigerator.

There’s a full set of glasses and plateware. On the counter there is a coffee maker along with enough utensils, pots, pans, and implements to make do. It’s not a full kitchen, but this is a hotel.

The full size fridge is great not just for leftovers, but also if you want to keep a few larger things around.
Homewood Suites Mason Bathroom

The bathroom is right off the bedroom area. There is no door to separate the sink area from the bed, not an issue on a solo trip, but if you’re here with more than one person, it can be annoying for someone to wash their hands in the night. The bathroom was clean, but was a little more worn than I would have expected. Specifically the drawer fronts, are really beat up. I think it’s more of a design issue than anything else, they stick out over the counter top and are exposed to lots of water.

The shower and toilet are behind a door, there are individual use toiletries provided.
Homewood Suites Mason Room View

I’m not sure I’ve ever had a room that overlooks a cookie cutter neighborhood. Little odd, but I guess mixed use is a good thing.
Homewood Suites Mason Breakfast

Homewood suites offers a free breakfast. There were a few hot options, but it was pretty generic. The area was kept very clean though so that’s good. There was a waffle station.

A few hot options like eggs, hash-browns, and sausage.

Some cold options like cereal and yogurt.

Some pastry options along with toasters. Like I said, pretty generic and kinda boring.
Homewood Suites Mason Happy Hour

On Wednesdays the Homewood Suites Mason does an evening happy hour reception. It’s nothing fancy and you’re not going to really make a meal out of it, but it’s a place to get a drink after work before heading out to dinner. The draft beer selection was certainly better than the wine selection.

The only hot options were soup. That’s ok, this isn’t advertised as a dinner.

There were a few cold options like salad, veggies, and cheese. Again, this isn’t meant to be a meal, just an after work snack.

There’s also a few dips and snacks. Look, this isn’t fancy, but it’s clean and exactly as advertised. It’s a Homewood Suites, not a Four Seasons.
Homewood Suites Mason Final Thoughts
The Homewood Suites Mason was a good place for me to say a few nights when I was working in the area. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. Homewood Suites are usually pretty nice, but as always, a newer or renovated hotel is the best bet. The included breakfast was good enough, but I’m very boring. The evening reception was a little lacking in snacks, but the beer selection was decent.
The Homewood Mason area is interesting, it’s basically in a suburban neighborhood, literally across the street from ticky tacky houses. At least there are plenty of restaurants and stores to shop at. I’m a sucker for Whole Foods pizza and salad bar so this was great for fast meals. I’m also a big fan of Skyline Chili and that’s of course nearby.
All in, I’d gladly stay here at the Homewood Mason.
