After my 3 nights in Omaha it’s time to head home. I’m traveling via DTW today with a nice short connection so I get home early. The first flight review will be on a Delta CRJ900 in first class. It will be nice to compare the CRJ900 with the ERJ175 that brought me to Omaha.

I chose this routing back from Omaha because of it’s short total travel time. I like connecting in Detroit, it’s an easy airport to navigate and overall a pleasant experience. It might be a little bit out of the way in comparison with connecting in ATL, but with the short connection time the end to end travel time was the shortest option of the day. It’s time also worked well with my work schedule this week.

Bottom Line: The Delta CRJ 900 is a good ride in first class. For a regional jet, the seats are comfortable, have power, and the service is the same as on a mainline aircraft. The 1-2 cabin is probably the best part of the experence.

Anyway, let’s get into this Delta Air Lines CRJ900 first class review.

OMA Airport Departure

I dropped off my rental car and walked through the terminal. OMA feels like an old school airport, not in a bad way, just definitely an older design.

After quickly passing security I found my gate where they were just finishing deplaning from the inbound flight.

Delta CRJ900 First Class OMA Boarding

Right on time boarding started. Our CRJ900 waiting to take us up to Detroit.

I boarded when first class was called. Unusually I was the first one down the jetbridge. Usually there are a few people waiting around for the first chance to get onto the plane, but not today.

Delta CRJ900 First Class Cabin and Seat Review

I walked into the Delta First Class cabin. On the CRJ900 the cabin has 12 seats spread over 4 rows. On the left side of the plane are single seats, the right side has double seats.

For this flight, because I’m flying solo the left side is a great place to sit. I’ll be in seat 2A for this Delta CRJ900 review.

The legroom is good in these seats and my pelican fits right into the overhead bin. The flight attendant did come around and collect coats.

There’s no in seat entertainment on the Delta CRJ900 but there is a stream to your own device option.

On the left side of the plane, even though there’s only a single seat, there are two air vents and lights.

Waiting at my seat was a bottle of water. Each of the CRJ900 first class seats also have power.

The pilots told us our flight time would be 1:30 minutes from takeoff to touchdown. The flight attendants also gave their welcome. My coat was collected and hung in the closet. Usually I’ll just stuff it in the overhead after boarding, but they are jam full today.

Delta CRJ900 First Class Departure

The door was closed and the flight attendants gave their safety announcement. The pilots told us we had to wait a minute or two for some bags to be loaded, there’s the Nebraska Tennis team traveling with us, they had lots of luggage and the CRJ 900 is not a large plane with big overhead bins.

We pushed back a few minutes late but the pilots said we’re still showing an early arrival. I put on a downloaded Netflix movie as we taxied to the runway.

Turned out to be a nice smooth flight once we are above the clouds.

Delta CRJ900 First Class Meal Service Review

The flight attendant came around and offered drinks and snacks. This flight is only 90 minutes so nothing substantial is offered. I got a water along with a bag of chips and a snack bar.

Because this flight took place over lunch time, I also enjoyed my sandwich that I brought with me. I won’t have time to stop in DTW to get a snack so I brought my lunch along with me. Even when lunch is served on a plane, brining a snack from home is usually a better option.

In flight was pretty quiet on this Thursday afternoon.

The only down side about seat 2A on the Delta CRJ900 is the window placement. Due to the window and seat spacing on the CRJ900, a few rows have misaligned windows. Row 2 is one of those rows so not amazing for window watching, but not bad like some other planes.

Delta Detroit Arrival

The pilots announced that we had begun descending and the flight attendant then brought me my jacket from the closet. They also collected any remnants of trash.

We’re scheduled to land a few minutes late, not great for my 33 minute layover. Checking the Delta app, I also need to go from the B terminal to A.

Once on the ground I’m hustling to make my connection. I only had 20 minutes and have been receiving boarding notifications on my phone for the last few minutes. Fortunately DTW is a great place to connect, even with a short layover.

Delta CRJ900 First Class Final Thoughts

Riding on and reviewing the Delta CRJ900 and ERJ175 in first class back to back was interesting. I enjoyed my CRJ900 first class review experience on the way to Detroit today. The CRJ900 cabin was clean and had all the domestic first class amenities that you would expect, except for in seat entertainment. There’s power in each seat, comfortable legroom, and on the left direct aisle access from the window seat.

The snack service is adequate, but I was inclined to bring a sandwich for a reason and was glad to have it. We were a few minutes delayed on departure because we needed to add a little bit of ballast for the large number of bags in the rear of the plane on this flight. I did have to hustle a little bit once I got to DTW but I made my next flight with no issues.

The Delta CRJ900 is a comfortable way to travel and I never mind seeing one on the schedule.
