Our last destination of our UK trip with our 5 month old daughter is Manchester. We’ve never actually visited Manchester and didn’t really know what to expect. We stayed at the Whitworth Locke hotel located right in the middle of Manchester and it was a great decision. Our goal was to have a large enough room to comfortably fit 2 adults and a baby and the Whitworth Lock One Bedroom was perfect.
Bottom Line: We really enjoyed the Whitworth Locke Hotel in Manchester. The hotel was clean, comfortable, quiet, and very well located for a quick city trip.
Whitworth Locke Manchester Location
The Whitworth Locke is located in central Manchester, just on the edge of the Gay Village. This is a perfect area for a visitor in the city. There are great pubs and restaurants all around with easy access to public transportation. This part of Manchester is very walkable, even with a stroller for the baby.

One thing really cool about Manchester is all of the brick architecture. The Whitworth Locke Hotel is a beautiful old brick building.
Whitworth Locke Hotel Lobby and Check-In

The lobby is an interesting space that looks like it was once an open air atrium but has been converted into a closed glass roof. When we visited the lobby bar was unfortunately closed for renovations.

We checked in at the front desk, it’s Christmas time so the lobby is decorated as such. We did spend some time at the Manchester Christmas Market on this trip and it was small but lovely. Check-in was fast and easy, the staff was very friendly.
Whitworth Locke One-Bedroom Suite

We walked into the one bedroom suite at the Whitworth and I was very impressed. I had made a mistake when booking though. I thought I booked a room with a separate door to the bedroom, but I actually booked the “open” floor plan. My mistake.

The living room had a sofa and the TV is on the opposite wall. There is also a table in this living space. Someone will notice the fan in the corner, it’s December so we’re not hot, but there is no air-conditioning at the Whitworth. Obviously there is heat.

Looking back towards the bathroom and hallway from the living room shows the closet space. It’s outside of the bedroom area.
Whitworth Locke One-Bedroom Suite Kitchenette

The kitchenette is in the same area. When traveling with the baby this was fantastic. There’s a full refrigerator, stove top, microwave, dishwasher, and laundry.

I wasn’t expecting there to be a dishwasher in the Whitworth hotel, but it was great to have for the baby bottles.
Whitworth Locke Bedroom Area

The bedroom area in our suite was small but functional. I found the bed to be a little soft, but Val liked it. Each side of the bed does have a small table, lights, and charging ports for devices.
Whitworth Locke Bathroom

As seems to be common, the bathroom was not huge, but was very clean. I liked the tall tile, even if it’s somewhat out of style in pink.
Whitworth Locke Room View

Outside our window there was lots of that great Manchester brick. I will say the windows are a little thin and so there is some street noise, even though we’re on the 4th floor.
Whitworth Locke Manchester Final Thoughts
The Whitworth Locke is a great hotel for those visiting Manchester and who want a little more space. The lobby is also a really cool space so when the bar is re-opened, would be a great spot for a drink.
We loved our one-bedroom suite, but next time I’ll pay more attention and get one with a door, not the “open” floor plan. Mostly just so that we can keep quiet while the baby is trying to sleep. The little kitchenette was perfect for cleaning bottles and a little laundry during our stay.
We got to explore Manchester but I think we should visit again, it’s a pretty and interesting city. When we return, I’ll gladly stay at the Whitworth Locke again.
