While visiting Copenhagen, Val and I decided to take a quick day trip over to Malmo Sweden. Malmo and Copenhagen are connected by a combination bridge and tunnel that span the ~12km distance between Denmark and Sweden. On the train, this takes about 40 minutes from city center to city center.
Bottom Line: Taking the train from Copenhagen to Malmo is fun and easy. It’s nice to get a little bit of change during a trip without much effort. The museums and castles in Malmo are worth the effort.
Copenhagen to Malmo
Malmo and Copenhagen are geographically extremely close, in 1999 a bridge and tunnel was built to connect the two cities. There’s both a road and rail option they take about the same time from city center to city center.
Copenhagen Train Station and Tickets

First stop between Copenhagen and Malmo was the Copenhagen Central Station(Köbenhavn H). Here we stopped at a ticket machine and purchased our tickets to Malmo.

The ticket machines are easy to use, have an English option, and only accept credit cards. The cost for 2 adults was 192 Danish Krona. This is about $13/12euro each.

With our tickets in hand, we headed down to the platform and boarded the train. This is a lower speed inter-city train, not the high speed X2000 that also services this route and goes all the way to Stockholm. We rode that train a few years ago, Full First Class SJ X2000 Review Here.
Copenhagen To Malmo Train Onboard

Onboard the train we had some snacks. This was our breakfast, not the most nutritious thing in the world, but it’s vacation, if I want candy and chocolate milk for breakfast, I’ll have it.
Malmo Daytrip

After about 35 minutes on the train, we arrived in Malmo. While not a huge town, it’s certainly worth a visit. There’s great museums and the old town is wonderful to explore.

When in Sweden, I of course went for some meatballs at a food hall that Val and I visited. Absolutely delicious.
Malmo to Copenhagen

After spending the day in Malmo it was time to head back to Copenhagen. The Malmo train station is right across the river from old town. An easy walk after eating a nice dinner.

The process for getting from Malmo to Copenhagen is just the same as before. We used the ticket machines to buy tickets for the train. They have English options and accept credit cards. The Malmo station is new and clean too.

We made our way down to the platform to catch the train back to Copenhagen.
