Welcome to Anchorage and the Home2 Suites by Hilton here in Midtown. For the final part of our Alaska trip, we’ll be staying at and I’ll be reviewing the Home2 Suites. I’ve reviewed several Home2 Suites hotels and mostly know what to expect from the brand. The Home2 in Anchorage is no exception, it’s a newer hotel with lots of features that fit well for this trip. Hilton is pretty consistent with the Home2 brand.
I chose the Home2 Anchorage because it was a good price, but also because after camping in Denali, we need to prep our gear for traveling again. We need the space to dry gear, kitchen to wash our cooking supplies, laundry to clean up, and the location is decent for exploring anchorage and the surrounding area.
Let’s get into this hotel review.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Location
The Home2 Anchorage is in an area called Midtown. Midtown Anchorage is about 3 miles south of downtown in a somewhat suburban area. While there are a few things around, this isn’t really a walkable part of Anchorage. We chose to stay in Midtown Anchorage as we’ll be exploring outside of the city for lots of this trip and we didn’t think it was worth the cost to stay downtown.

We liked the location, but driving to most things is going to be required. We arrived to the hotel on a somewhat overcast wet day. At least it’s not cold out.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Lobby and Check-in

The lobby at the Home2 Anchorage is large and brightly colored. It was also often more crowded than I expected. Lots of people going to tours and checking in and out of the hotel.
We used the Hilton App to check-in so we never needed to stop by the front desk. That’s one thing that Hilton does better than pretty much every one else, their mobile check-in and in app key system works really well and is widely implemented.

We made our way to the elevator then our room. I shared the mobile key with Valerie so that we’d both have our own keys. The Hilton App is pretty great and all of this was completely seamless.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Queen Room Review

Walking into the Home2 Suites Midtown Anchorage we were greeted by the regular Home2 design. The room is bright and has lots of different light sources, but not a single switch to control them all.

The single bed options here had a queen bed. Usually this would be a king, not sure why they are queen beds here. It’s fine, not a big deal. Both sides of the bed had outlets to charge devices.

Next to the bed is a sitting area with a sofa an ottoman. I like rooms like this, it allows you to not just sit on the bed. Gives you a little separation between sleeping space and relaxing space.

Across from the bed and sofa is the TV. It can pivot between facing the bed and sitting area.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Kitchenette

Near the door is the Home2 Kitchenette. It includes a sink, microwave, full size fridge, dishwasher, and full set of dishware. If you want a cook top, you can borrow one from the front desk. We used this area to clean up all of our camping cook gear. Getting to throw everything right into the dishwasher and have it come out clean ready to pack was awesome.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Bathroom

The bathroom here in Anchorage was pretty much the same as you’d find at any Home2. There’s a vanity with the sink.

On the opposite wall was the shower. Nice stand up shower instead of a tub. I’m a big fan of this, not sure why but it just feels nicer.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Pool and Patio

The Home2 Anchorage had a nice patio area with a fire pit and lounge chairs. We often saw people enjoying a drink and relaxing after a day of exploring.

There’s also a pool area with a hot tub. We came down here to relax after some of our day trips in the Anchorage area. The hot tub along with a few beers was the perfect way to end to day.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Gym and Laundry

Ok, so a combination gym and laundry area is a little weird but that’s what is going on here at the Home2 Anchorage.

The gym was small but had enough to get a small workout in. We didn’t use it, we opted to rent some bikes and ride 25 miles instead. Anchorage has a great set of trails and would highly recommend it!

While we didn’t use the gym for exercise, we did do some laundry. This isn’t the first time we’ve done hotel laundry while on vacation. I always travel with some laundry detergent, just in case.
Home2 Suites Anchorage Midtown Final Thoughts
The Home2 Suites in Anchorage Midtown was a great hotel for our needs. Home2 is a brand I’ve stayed at before and I’m usually pleased. The Home2 Suites in Anchorage was clean, comfortable, and quiet. It was also perfect to have the full size dishwasher and sink to do our dishes from camping. The large room area was great to lay out our camping gear to dry.
The free breakfast in the morning was adequate, but literally not worth writing home about. The Home2 had laundry facilities and a nice pool area with a hot tub. This was great to relax in after hiking and exploring Anchorage.
I’d gladly stay here again.
