After landing at FAI and picking up our rental car we headed to Downtown Fairbanks. We’ll be staying at and I’ll be reviewing the Springhill Suites by Marriott here in Fairbanks. One of the benefits of traveling for work is being able to earn free says for when I’m on vacation. This is one of those trips!
I chose the SpringHill Suites in Fairbanks for a few reasons, it looks like a nice hotel from the reviews, the location is right in the middle of town, and the price is right. I’m excited to explore Fairbanks and the SpringHill Suites looks like the perfect hotel as a jumping off point.
Bottom Line: I’m not expecting anything amazing out of a SpringHill Suites, even in Alaska it’s a pretty standard Marriott brand hotel. We ended up really enjoying our stay here, let’s get into the hotel review.
Date of stay: September 2022
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska Location
The SpringHill Suites in Fairbanks is right downtown. If you’re looking to be in the middle of town, this is the perfect hotel location. There are several bars, breweries, tap houses in the walking area along with restaurants, shops, and a few activities.

There is parking right outside the hotel in a designated lot. There is also an overflow lot across the street.
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska Lobby

The lobby is large and open. The front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming.

To the right of the lobby is the breakfast buffet area. Like all SpringHill Suites, there is free breakfast in the mornings. We did try it one morning, it wasn’t remarkable but was good enough.

Towards the back of the building is the elevator bank. There’s also a restaurant that we didn’t try, but seemed to be very popular in the evenings.
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska King Bed Room

We walked into the single king room and we were very surprised by the amount of space. The room at the SpringHill Fairbanks was absolutely huge. Walking in there is a sofa with ottoman, to the left is a small bar area, the TV can pivot to face the sofa or bed in the back of the room. To the rear and left is the bathroom.

The bed area is nicely equipped with an alarm clock, lamps, and outlets on each side of the bed too.

There’s also a desk that we didn’t use for work, mostly just used for packing our day bags and keeping track of items.

Looking back towards the TV and bathroom. This does show the one downside of the SpringHill Suites, the bathroom isn’t all contained. So if someone needs to wash their hands in the night, it will bleed light into the bed. Not an issue if you’re alone, but with two people it can be annoying.
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska Kitchenette

The SpringHill suites in Fairbanks had these nice little kitchenette bar areas. There was a coffee machine, microwave, small fridge, and sink. This was super useful for us as we’re going camping when we leave, Getting all items cold before putting them into the cooler is imperative for proper storage.
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska Bathroom

Like I said before, the SpringHill Suites Fairbanks bathroom is divided into two areas. Here is the sink that only has a divider between it and the bedroom area.

The shower and toilet have their own room. The entire room and especially the bathroom were spotless. The SpringHill Fairbanks is one of the cleanest hotel rooms that I’ve stayed at in a while. It’s not a new hotel but the maintenance is fantastic.
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska Room View

From our room on the 4th floor, we got a view of Downtown Fairbanks. This is not a large town, the SpringHill Suites is between 1st and 2nd street, this is 2nd street and contains many of the towns bars and restaurants.
SpringHill Suites Fairbanks Alaska Final Thoughts
The SpringHill Suites in Fairbanks was the perfect jumping off point for exploring Fairbanks and preparing for our upcoming camping trip. The hotel location was great and was easy to find and park at. The SpringHill is surrounded by restaurants and bars that we enjoyed visiting.
The hotel room was extremely clean and well maintained. This is the best maintained older hotel that I’ve stayed at in a long time. The room was huge and had all the amenities to make us comfortable. The breakfast was adequate, but I’m not a big hotel breakfast person.
We seriously enjoyed our stay here at the SpringHill Fairbanks. The only downside was the split bathroom leaking light into the bedroom area. But I’ll gladly stay here again.
