Hotel Review: Tru by Hilton Charlotte Ayrsley

Another week, another kinda boring hotel review. This time it’s a Tru by Hilton review, but just like last week, I’ll be in Arysley Town near Charlotte. Obviously I’m traveling again for work to Charlotte again and staying in Arysley, but unlike last time, I’m at the Tru by Hilton. The Hilton Garden Inn Arysley that I reviewed last week was really expensive for some reason, so I’m staying across the street at the Tru Arysley.

Tru by Hilton is a newer brand to Hilton. It’s marketed as a lower cost option with slightly fewer luxuries but still part of the Hilton brand. I’ve stayed at this hotel before, it’s just been a few years. I’ve reviewed Tru by Hilton in Huber Heights before too so it will be interesting to compare the two. Tru, being a lower cost option, doesn’t award Hilton points like most others in the brand, so it’s something to keep in mind when booking.

Anyway, let’s get into this Tru by Hilton Arysley review.

Tru by Hilton Arysley Location

Tru by Hilton Arysley is just off I485 near the I77 interchange. This is on the outskirts of Charlotte in a small planned development called Arysley Town. Arysley has restaurants, hotels, apartments, and businesses. It’s very walkable but feels very manicured and simulated. It’s obviously not a real town, but it’s nice for a night or two.

Tru Arysley Exterior

Walking up to the hotel it follows the Tru brand. Pretty much all of these hotels have the exact same exterior motif.

Tru Arysley Lobby and Check-in

Tru Arysley Lobby

I walked into the lobby at the Tru Arysley already checked in via the Hilton App. I didn’t need to stop at the front desk, I like that Hilton is at the top of the game when it comes to there app.

Tru Arysley Lobby

The lobby is decorated to match the area and isn’t as cookie cutter as the exterior. This cool little wall mural hits some of the Charlotte highlights.

Looking back towards the front door, there are lots of seating areas with tables and plenty of comfortable chairs. In the evenings a few people were hanging out after work but in the morning this area was very busy with people eating breakfast.

Tru Arysley King Bed Room Review

Tru Arysley King Room

The view walking into the king room at the Tru Arysley. The room is well designed and decorated. Nothing very fancy or extravagant but it’s modern and has everything needed.

Tru Arysley King Room Bed

The bed was very comfortable and had outlets on both sides of the bed. It did only have 3 pillows, so for a single traveler that’s just fine, but if there were two people, I’d expect 4.

Tru Arysley King Room

Across from the bed is the TV and desk area. The desk is very small and on wheels. These rooms are a bit small so making use from all of the space makes the most sense.

There’s a rolling chair also in the room, it feels a little out of place stuck here in the corner.

Tru Arysley King Room

Near the door is a full length mirror and set of hooks on the wall. I really like wall hooks in smaller hotel rooms. They make storing things in the space easy.

Tru Arysley Closet

The closet is an open concept area. There’s plenty of space to hang up shirts and things, but no doors to save some space.

Tru Arysley Fridge

Below the closet shelf is a small fridge. No in room coffee or microwave, but the lobby has both of these available at all times.

Tru Arysley Bathroom Reivew

Tru Arysley Bathroom

The Tru Arysley bathrooms are quite large in comparison with the rest of the room. They are very bright and open but the hotel is starting to show a little age here in the bathrooms.

I liked the shower though, much better than a tub. One note, Tru by Hilton doesn’t do induvial toiletries, so if you like to have your own products, bring them from home.

Tru Arysley Breakfast

Tru Arysley Breakfast

The breakfast area in the morning was busy. Tru has hot and cold options along it’s buffet. I just had a muffin so I cannot comment on the hot items, but seemed like what you’d expect from a mid market name brand hotel.

Tru by Hilton Arysley Final Thoughts

Tru is an interesting brand. It feels like Hilton is trying to compete with cheaper hotels, but still keep the Hilton brand. It works, but it’s not a full blown Hilton. It doesn’t feel as hip as a Moxy or as spacious as a Home2 Suites, but it’s perfectly pleasant for a night or two.

The Tru Arysley is really a good hotel because of the location. Arysley is a planned “fake” town, but it’s walkable and has plenty of good bars and restaurants to enjoy. I wouldn’t want to live here, but it’s great place for a hotel, probably why there are 4 hotels in Arysley.

I’d gladly stay here again, but only if the Hilton Garden Inn across the street was sold out or expensive.
