We’re spending a weekend in Gainesville for a family trip and I’ll be reviewing the DoubleTree by Hilton Gainesville. College town, in the spring, visiting family, I think you can guess the nature of the trip. Anyway, for this trip to Gainesville we’re staying at the Hilton DoubleTree. I booked this trip kinda last minute so the rates were crazy high, that’s when having a nice stash of Hilton Points comes in handy.

Anyway, there will be 3 of us staying at the DoubleTree Gainesville so we got a room with 2 queens. Val and I will be sharing the room with our friend Ashley. On our day of arrival it was very late when we finally checked in but over the next two days we were able to enjoy the DoubleTree and had a very nice time in Gainesville. Anyway, let’s get into this review.

DoubleTree Gainesville Check In and Lobby

DoubleTree Gainesville Entrance

We arrived at the DoubleTree Gainesville very late in the evening and the hotel desk was empty. After a few minutes the clerk came and checked us in and gave us keys.

DoubleTree Gainesville Lobby

The lobby was very clean and nicely styled. It had a very college feel and I wasn’t expecting that from a DoubleTree. I was assuming it would be a pretty generic hotel but this was much nicer than expected.

DoubleTree Gainesville Lobby Bar

Down the hall is a bar area, it was empty at this time of night but I’m really impressed with this hotel. From the outside you’d have no idea it was such a nice and interesting place.

DoubleTree Gainesville Two Queen Bed Review

DoubleTree Gainesville Bedroom

We found our room and walked into a very clean and comfortable space.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bedroom

The beds were nice and plush along with plenty of outlets for both beds. There’s also a real alarm clock, I still like that because I’m boring.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bedroom

There’s a chair that was promptly turned into a luggage rack. Across from the beds was the TV and desk. There’s also a chalkboard style board. It goes with the school theme that the hotel is using.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bedroom

Near the door was a coffee machine and another small area that again was turned into a luggage rack. With 3 people pretty much every surface becomes a luggage rack.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bathroom Review

DoubleTree Gainesville Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and extremely well outfitted for a DoubleTree. This hotel has clearly been remodeled in the recent past.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bar

DoubleTree Gainesville Bar

I wasn’t expecting this, but the bar area at the DoubleTree Gainesville is extremely nice. They offer drinks and even a small food menu.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bar Area

There was live music, lots of tables, and a large TV that had different games on. It’s the spring so baseball and basketball were the sports of the season.

DoubleTree Gainesville Courtyard

DoubleTree Gainesville Courtyard

Ok, this was completely unexpected and was my favorite part of the DoubleTree Gainesville. There’s an awesome courtyard in the center of the hotel. It has tons of chairs and seating to just hangout.

DoubleTree Gainesville Bar

The bar from earlier is two sided so you can sit in the courtyard and order drinks from the bar.

DoubleTree Gainesville Drinks

We bellied up here and had a few drinks one evening. I’m not usually a hotel bar type of person, but this was an excellent place to hangout and enjoy some time with friends and family.

DoubleTree Gainesville Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed this DoubleTree. It was not at all what I expected and I was completely surprised at how much I enjoyed this generic brand hotel. The room was clean, quite, and comfortable. The decorations in the lobby and public areas have a fun theme, especially for a college town.

The bar area along with the outdoor courtyard are such a fun space. We really enjoyed our evening that we spent out with some local beers and well made cocktails. If I ever had to spend the night in Gainesville, I’d gladly pick this DoubleTree again. Is it kinda boring one of my favorite hotels that I’ve reviewed this year is a DoubleTree in Gainesville? Yes, but I like it that way.
